I'm considering using Shadowkeeper to change my true-class ranger into a ranger:archer. At the moment he's only level 8 which I guess would simplify things a bit.
1) Does Shadowkeeper automatically apply the skill bonuses that would have already been accrued by the character when you select the kit? (eg. by level 8 I would have two true shots and +2 to hit with missile weapons) 2)If not, does the game start counting from the moment of the change? (so level 8 would be level 1 in effect for the purposes of calculating bonuses) 3) Is there anything else I should know about this process? Thanks in advance! nah, you need to add the bonus' yourself. and the game counts it as though you have been a ranger from lvl 1. so the normal progression applies, hope that helps

If he is only level 8, isn't it easier to start a new game with an archer? You can install DungeonBeGone to skip the dungeon.
I downloaded from this site: http://www.rpgtalk.com/bg2/ppg.htm [ 06-01-2005, 12:25 PM: Message edited by: el_kalkylus ] |
ersonally, i would do this in two stages. Firstly, set your level to 1, and change your class to Archer. Then give yourself however much experience you had and start your game up. You will have all your proficiency points and such to place, just as if you had levelled up. Easy

Thanks for all your replies, for some reason I completely missed them!
Just FYI timothy, after some testing it appears that certain bonuses like the called shot do in fact work correctly, and appear to be added at the correct intervals. The 'to hit' roll modification is a bit more difficult to test and I can't really be bothered El_Kalkylus, unfortunately I've been keeping a written record so starting again would be a real pain. Dungeon be gone would deny me all the XP and equipment from Improved Ilyich too. Speaking of which, why on earth am I still only level 8?! Bah. White Lancer: Just what I needed! Why didn't I think of that? That would indeed seem to be the best way to do it, and would avoid me having to start again or worry about the game not accounting for everything. Thanks for your input everybody, much appreciated |
Can I just bounce some stats off you all to make sure that they're correct after the change?
I now have a level 8 archer, with 287,752 XP. His stats are as follows: Base THAC0: 12 THAC0: 12 (no weapon equipped) Number of attacks 3/2 Lore: 8 Stealth 69 Saving throws Paralyze/poison/death: 8 (-2) Rod/staff/wand: 10 (-2) Petrify/Polymorph: 9 (-2) Breath Weapon: 10 (-2) Spells: 11 (-2) Weapon Proficiencies Long Bow: +++++ Two Handed Sword: + Two Weapon Style: ++ As I understand it, the ranger gets 4 proficiency points at level 1, plus two stars in 'two weapon style' as a bonus. Two more are attained in the course of levelling from 1 to 8. Please do correct me if this is nonsense - I have no desire to be cheating here! The THAC0 and the like seem to be comparable with everyone else. I seem to have a few too many special abilities though! At present: 2 x called shot (correct I think) 1 x cure light wounds 1 x draw upon holy might 2 x horror 1 x larloch's minor drain 1 x vampiric touch Not quite sure where they all came from, so if anyone knows which ones should be deleted, would be great to know, thanks I'm showing one level 1 priest spell memorised which I think is accurate for level 8. Thanks in advance [ 06-13-2005, 11:04 PM: Message edited by: shamrock_uk ] |
No, the abilities are all correct. At least if the character is the protagonist...
What I do, I have a save lying around with all characters/classes at the start of the game. Then, when I want to change kits and classes on my NPCs, I just give the corresponding character on the start of the game the same amount of XP, level it up in the game, and copy its stats to the NPC. If anyone asked. Looks good, though. |
