I'm just starting Chapter 3 and Yoshimo suggested we go to see Renal Bloodscalp. We meet him and he sends us to join Mae'var's guild. Some of the tasks that he's asking us to do don't seem to be something that a 'good' character would be doing (like Edwin having us go knock off one of the Cowled Wizards). Is it necessary to continue with this subquest to complete the game? I'm thinking about just skipping out on this whole Renal thing and just stick to Aran's quests.

Any suggestions?

Coweld Wizards did take <span style="color:#FFFFFF">Imoen away, so it would be pretty logical to me that you would go and ha<span style="color:#FFFFFF">ve a little "chat" with him. :D

<font color=plum>Working with the Shadow Thieves does present soemthing of a "moral dilemma" for good characters, but they are currently the best option in the game for those of good alignment.

There has been an extensive discussion on creating a Mod that does actually provide a "Good" alternative for the PC and party to get to Spellhold without working with the Thieve's Guild or Bodhi, but it hasn't gotten past the discussion stage yet.

As for the tasks required by Aran and Mae'var, there was a lengthy discussion about the specific encounter you mentioned and whether a good-aligned character could justify breaking into the home of Cowled Wizard and killing him just to please Edwin.

That discussion took place here --> Roleplaying/Alignment Dilemmas

Hope that helps.</font>

though a mod that gives a "good" way to get to spellhold flys in the face of game design, the idea being the player could pick the lesser of two evils, but still had to pick an evil.

Well, maybe the game designers only used 2 evil paths for a reason. The player is a bhaal spawn, and they wanted him to choose one side of evil, becuase of the heritage, or something alone those lines.

will my character lose 'lore' points for carrying out these tasks?

Xen 02-08-2005 10:25 AM

You can't lose lore points. You can lose reputation points. And you won't lose them don't worry.

You don't HAVE to kill the cowled wizard. You can just refuse to do it and get in a brawl with Edwin.

TheGodThatFailed 02-08-2005 11:47 AM

Aren't lore points the things that are used to determine what you can identify without a scroll/spell/merchant? Like how much you know about culture, and artifacts or something? This is the case in NWN...

Having 2 evil paths is just dumb, and we've been over this, check out that thread that Cerek was pointing to.
