I'm at the part where I'm doing duties for Renal Bloodscalp, and I just recently killed Mae'var. But when I go out into town, a message appears:

Your misdeeds have spread, the guards are searching for you or something like that

Then i'm immediately killed by amnish guards and cowled wizards

is there anyway to avoid this when doing this quest, or can i fix this mistake without having to restart the game......?

When did u kill mae'var, are u sure renal gave u permission?

Sounds more like you have a reputation problem. Have you been casting Fireballs in public places? Shoplifting?

Basically, you are walking around with a very low reputation and the good people of Ahm have had enough of your misdeeds and have set the guard on you.

There are two ways of resolving this.

1) Do lots of 'good' quests and build up your reputation
2) Bribe the church. Always bribe the church. Using the donation option you can slowly 'buy' your reputation back up to an acceptable level (any reputation of 4 or above should prevent you being attacked on sight)

In the interim, I suggest you cast invisibility spells on your party so you don't get attacked on the way to the church and/or drink potions of speed so you can run to the church.

Ah, I'm absolutely sure I was sent on the quest by Renal and had full permission to kill Mae'var. My reputation is at (3 or -3)which is despised.
I suppose my only chance of continuing this game is running to a church and donating all my money to raise my reputation so the guards will get off my back. Thanks a whole bunch for the suggestions Dace

Well, I'm glad you are a hardcore roleplayer, I believe that to get from reputation 3 to 4 you could donate as little as 1500?

Did you throw any large area of effect spells during the fight with Mae'Var? If so, you may have accidentally killed the prisoner in one of those jail cells. Normally you get a small reputation bonus for rescuing this fellow, but if you accidentally fried him you probably lost a bunch of rep points for killing an innocent. You might not have noticed when it happened if there was a lot of battle feedback text going by...
