can anybody here say that they have defeated a dragon with solo characters? i know it is possible with a mage to cast lower resistance then disintegrate them. But my main question is... is it possible with a 'fighter'?

anybody who has any solo dragon slaying tales please share, regardless of class :D

a monk maybe? with quivering palm, but i think they may be immune im not sure, or did you mean fighter as a fighter class

I dont see why a high level fighter couldnt kill it single handedly. With enough hit points the only thing youd hav to look out for is the wing buffet. Or if they cast a mind control type spell and u fail the save.

I managed to kill the Shadow Dragon with a Solo Bard (Skald kit), but it took several tries. I used lots of summons and tried to take the dragon out with one shot items. I was hoping to hit him with Pitchwife so that the slivers would prevent him from casting, but that never worked.

My final winning strategy was to hit him with Cloudkill and I summoned Improved Kitthix and an Air Elemental from the staff. The summoned creatures were nothing more than fodder while I hit him with 2 Lower Resistance spells. Then he turned on me and I had no choice but to attack directly. NONE of my weapons worked well against him, so I used my favorite damage spell - Skull Traps. I believe it took about 3 to finally kill him.

If you are using a solo fighter, I would recommend using items that protect you from Charm, Hold and Fear spells and also use weapons or potions to increase your attack rate and damage potential.

Potions of Speed and Invisibility should be in plentiful supply. There are swords that can increase your attack rate, allow you to strike first, and/or protect you from Charm and Hold. You also need to have your AC at the lowest possible to make it even harder for the dragon to hit you. Two great items would be Celestial Fury and Flail of Ages, since they have a chance to stun or slow your opponent with each hit.

As mentioned before, your biggest worry will be the wing buffet because it can also knock you unconscious. Drink a Potion of Invisibility and run behind the dragon as often as possible to keep attacking from behind - if you can.

I killed every dragon in the game with a solo Avenger druid... It was easy with Energy Blades and, in one case, a summoned deva.

Actually, Dragons see through invisibility.

quivering palm does work on the shadow dragon at least - my solo monk killed him with one hit from a netural blue circle which was a bit disappointing . . .

solo fighter types have the stamina and strenght to take them out too although i've never tried it without a few TOB HLAs and the available summons (spider, efreet, air elemental) - just keep banging away

arrows of dispelling would help too

It was with a sorcerer rather than a fighter, but my solo character killed a dragon by accident. I had only meant to humiliate him, but I forgot that I had 3 horrid wiltings in my chain contingency. As soon as he turned hostile he was dead.

i'm likely to try it with a sword wielding fighter. (without the aid of any magic)

can any body claim to have done this?

Well it's definitly possible but I think you need a lot of knowledge/luck/HLA's.
My solo Sorcerer strategy was nothing special. I used the PRATI tactic.
