I would like to create the sword "Anduril" and Clua it into the game. What program can I use to do this? Also, I am leaning toward making the weapon do this,,,,
Two-handed sword(of course)
--Immune to undead when equipped(Aragorn couldn't be harmed by the dead)
-- +3 vs. demi-humans
-- +2 vs. everything else
-- Summon Skeletal Warrior, once a day
-- Only usable by ranger or paladin
Any and all ideas are welcome of course, have fun with this!

I suppose that it could do additional damage to undead creatures.

Frankly, it could be somewhat similar to Daystar, though without the Sunray ability, and of course being a 2H sword.

There's a nice program called DLTCEP (don't know what it stands for) that good with a lot of different file formats.

You can also use Near Infinity to create items. Actually, I don't know if you can create anything with NI, per se. But you can copy an existing item, rename the file, and then edit this newly named item however you want.

Make whatever you want, but do NOT base anything solely on the movie. Read the books before deciding anything.

Personally, I think Orcrist, Glamdring and Sting would be more fun than Narsil/Andruil. All three would probably be +3 weapons--Orcrist and Sting would provide substantial THAC0 and Damage bonuses against Orcs/Half-Orcs and Spiders, respectively, and Sting might also confer immunity to Web, as well. Glamdring, on the other hand, should have a bit of Blunt damage added to the normal Slashing.

I see Andruil as more of a Bastard Sword, myself. Strikes as a +5 weapon, no particular Undead-related enchantments.

I would use IEEP to make it, but those who know prefer DCTLP or Near Infinity.

Six,, in the movie Aragorn could not be harmed by the specters when he came to claim the fullfilment of their ancient oath. To me, then Anduril should have some sort of protection from undead. Also, Aragorn wielded the weapon with 2 hands, although I agree that the weapon appears to be capable of being one-handed. So bastard sword would be acceptable. How about,,,,
Bastard Sword
--immune to undead when equipped
-- +3 vs. undead AND demi-humans(an Orc carver)
-- +2 vs. everything else
-- summon Skeletal Warrior, once a day(this may overpower the weapon..give feedback).
-- only usable by ranger or paladin.

As regards LoTR: The film version is crap on SO many levels. A lot of good stuff, sure, but a lot of garbage along with it. The scene you mention is one of Peter Jackson's more embarassing horks of puke. Go ahead and make the weapon if you wish, but don't call it Anduril if you have any respect for the story.

As regards the weapon: It's not the Animate Dead 1x/day that makes it hideously overpowered, it's the permanent Protection from Undead. Every Undead critter in the game (except Improved Bodhi) literally has NO chance to even attack you when you're holding that thing.

The protect from undead does not come from the sword, but from the debt owed to Aragorn as Isildur's heir, the undead betrayed Gondor and fought for Sauron, the undead fought for Aragorn to repay their debt and gain peace, he was only not attacked by this specific group of undead for this reason. And surely, only usable by a human ranger?

Considering the supposed sharpness of the sword, perhaps a chance to inflict a vorpal hit? Throw away all the undead related enchantments.

ElfBane 01-08-2005 09:34 AM

Ok, I'll buy the no undead enchantments. How about this...
Bastard sword
-- +3 vs. demi-humans(orc carver)
-- +2 vs. everything else
-- 10% chance of a vorpal hit?
How does that look?

Dundee Slaytern 01-08-2005 09:57 AM

Anduril +6 <---- This only refers to enchantment level

Type: Bastard Sword
Damage: 2d4+2, +4 vs Evil, +4 vs Planar Creatures
THAC0: +2 Bonus, +4 vs Evil, +4 vs Planar Creatures

Special: User under Bless and Protection from Evil when equipped, +1 CHA when equipped

5% Vorpal Hit

ElfBane 01-08-2005 10:15 AM

Why Planar Creatures? Is it because Sauron is a fallen angel, and Narsil was able to harm him?
Also, any alignment or class restictions?
