Actually more like annoying golems, I'm wondering what are good tactics for taking them out quickly, which is better, a bludgoning(sp?) or chrushing weapons... or are they both as effective? Anything better?

My party just got slaughtered in the entrance to the Planarsphere... I had completle forgot the golem there and had only piercing and slashing weapons.. it was *ugly*... nothing worse than seeing Yoshimo smeared against a wall...

[edit] how do you manage to write only instead of ugly?

Crushing and Bludgeoning weapons are the same thing. And yes, they are typically better than other weapons against golems. Since they are immune to plenty of effects, the best way is usually just Improved Haste or similar to speed up the destruction.

The "tactic" to use is really just proper planning and golem knowledge.

It's always pretty smart for your main tanks to be skilled in the use of a couple weapons with different damage types. Heck, even if your tank doesn't have any prof points in any blunt weapons, that doesn't mean that you can't keep them in your inventory ... just in case. Really stinks to not have a blunt weapon available when you come face to face with a clay golem. And unskilled use of a magic hammer (or whatever) is better than no magic hammer when you desperately need one.

Also it helps to know which golems are immune to what types of damage or require a certain amount of enchantment to hit.

I'll expand on this a little..

Mages under stoneskin make better tanks aganst golems than fighters, just have your mages whak at them with staves and such and your fighter can deal with them hopfuly before they get though the last of the 'skins.

If you're gonna send in your mage into malee against a golem, you should have the mage cast a mirror image on himself as well as stoneskin. The mage may or may not get many hits on the golem, but he'll be tough for the golem to hit.

And blur, for a better AC. My cleric/mage eats golems for brekfast with stoneskin, mirror image, blur, and haste. then all you need is a staff that can hit them, and they;re dead.

Certain spells work against Golems too. ;) MMM and Sunfire are some low-level choices.

All of this is however if your going up against clay or stone golems. When it comes to iron or adamantine I have one set of directions: small doorways and an ancher or dart thrower equiped with a +3 bow magic bow, sling bullets or darts. I presently have a bow that shoots energy arrows at +3. You just sit there with the golem stuck behind some doorway thats too small for it and peg away until it drops. It can become like watching grass grow but eventually it goes down.

The anti-undead throwing axe "Azuredge" is also a +3 weapon that's useful in these situations, Mirror Image.

Later in the game, you'll eventually have plenty of anti-golem weapons and you'll be strong enough that you can go toe-to-toe with any golem and whack'em down to size quickly.
