My solo Skald has been contracted by the Church of Lathandar to acquire the services of Sir Sarles, but the snooty artist demands I get him pure illithium to work with.

I contact the local ore merchant and she offers to give me an alloy rather than pure illithium. She tells me if I want the "real stuff", I'll need to talk to her contact. I chose to speak to her contact.

The contact told me that he didn't have the 200lbs of pure illithium I needed, because his brother he hadn't heard from his brother (who actually worked the mine) in several days. He was concerned and asked if I would investigate the whereabouts of his brother. (this part was added by the Unfinished Business Mod, I believe). I agreed to look for his brother and set off for Umar Hills. I completed the local quests then went to the Temple Ruins. I managed to find the missing brother, but he told me there was no illithium to be found anywhere in the Ruins (which is where the brothers had been getting it). He left the dungeon, but I continued on. I searched every area I could think of, but never found a hidden store of 200lbs of illithium (which I honostly expected I would find.

When I returned to the Copper Coronet, the contact thanked me for finding his brother, but I still didn't get any illithium out of the deal. I went back to the ore merchant and she repeated her offer to provide me with an alloy - so I accepted.

My question is whether or not I've done something wrong and screwed my chance to get the pure illithium or if I just haven't progressed far enough to get it yet.

Speak to Ungar Hilldark, he should direct you to go somewhere.

He's the one who sent me in search of his brother. When I returned, he thanked me for finding his brother but didn't have anything else to say. When I tried to talk to him again, it just said "Ungar Hilldark has nothing to say to you."

This is Cerek we're talking about here. He's not an idiot.

Cerek, try checking where the Illithium quest usually goes. This would be that house in the Bridge District with that dwarf with those dead kids and such. If you didn't get a reference to go to there from the brother, then it's possible that the Illithium part of UB is broken...but I doubt it. Maybe you just overlooked something.

Thanks for the endorsement! :D

But vesselle's question is a valid one. The answer is "YES", to the best of my knowledge, my game is fully patched on the PC I was using. I have FINALLY managed to get my MAIN PC fixed once and for all (I hope) and I am currently in the process of RE-Installing BG2 along with the patches and various Weidu Mods on it. When I installed the latest TOB patch, I hit "Run" instead of "Save" and it downloaded the patch to the Temporary Internet folder instead of the SoA folder, but it did seem to install correctly. All the Mods have been Saved into my SoA folder, but I haven't actually begun installing any of them yet.

Neither Ungar or his brother made any reference to the Bridge District, so it is quite possible this portion of U.B. is "broken". I just hope I didn't screw up by telling the ore merchant to go ahead and get the alloy. Then again, I would HAVE to tell her that if I planned to keep the pure stuff for myself anyway...so maybe the I'm not FUBARRED yet on the illithium. I have to wait for a day before getting the alloy. After that, I will go back to Ungar and see if he mentions the Bridge District.

One odd thing is that - even though he thanks me for saving his brother - the brother doesn't actually appear on the screen while I'm in the Copper Coronet. I expected to find him standing beside Ungar, but nobody is there. Then again, that particular corner of the Coronet is a bit "buggy" when it comes to showing characters anyway.

In my very first game, I had given Nalia the Staff of Magi and told her to wait for me at the Coronet. She went into the corner behind Ungar's table. Later on, I naturally wanted to give the Staff to Imoen, but Nalia had it equipped when she left the party - so she was INVISIBLE!!!! I knew she was right there, but I couldn't make her "appear" for love nor money. I tried everything - including attacking her - to force to turn visible, but it didn't work. I finally had to go back to the Saved Game where I originally kicked Nalia out of the party and UN-EQUIP the Staff.

BTW, don't ask why I didn't take Nalia and the staff WITH me to Spellhold - because I honostly can't remember. (so see, I am a bit of an idiot at times. ;) )

When you spoke to Gorje in the Temple Ruins, did you specifically mention Unger? Dropping that simple name might mean the difference between Gorje heading back to the Copper Coronet, and Gorje just wandering off, never to be seen again. And if Gorje's not in the CC, Unger won't have anyone with whom to hold a conversation about where the illithium is, and you'll never be able to open the door of the Derelict House. (But since it's so derelict, can't you just knock a hole in the wall?)

Possible solution: Go stand next to Unger and CreateCreature("gorje").

Hmmmm....I don't remember if I mentioned Ungar Hilldark by name or if I just said I had been sent by his brother. I DO remember that Gorje was just as hacked at Ungar for revealing the location of thier mine as Ungar was at the Ore Merchant for revealing that he was her contact. So Gorje knew I was sent by Ungar to find him. When he asked if the way out of the dungeon was clear, I told him it was not (thinking he would stay put until I finished the dungeon) but he said he would take his chances anyway and off he went.

Guess I'll go give the derelict house a try and see what happens. If that doesn't work, I might try the CreateCreature option.

Thanks for the advice.

I went to the derelict house, but it was locked. I went back to the Copper Coronet and did CreateCreature:"Gorje". He showed up, but refused to talk to me. He told me to speak to his idiot brother. Ungar still has nothing to say to me.

It's beginning to look like this portion of the Unfinished Business Mod is broken. I will wait until I get the alloy and try again.

In the meantime, I have a different question, but one that is somewhat related to this topic.

Which weapon is better for using the illithium on - the Mace of Disruption or AzureEdge?

The overall effect is the same for both (from what I understand) and both have the power to obliterate undead on contact. I haven't retrieved the Mace yet, but I did buy AzureEdge from Bernard. Personally, I find the attack rate of the axe to be horribly slow - even if I advance to melee'. Daystar seems to be twice as quick as far as attacks go, but there shouldn't be THAT big of a difference between the two (unless, of course, I was throwing AzureEdge).

Does anybody else have this problem with the axe being so slow on attacks, or is it just because my bard only has one "*" in his proficiency with axe?

Q'alooaith 12-06-2004 04:00 AM

with more proficency point's your attack speed with increase, so yes it's because you've not increased your proficency..

I'd say MoD, think it make it enchantment level 5, meaning it can hit creatures thatt need a 5+ or better weapon to hit..

Though don't quote me on that.
