Okay, I noticed that when you have a female character, most people refer to you as male, however, the 'working girls' and the bums always get it right! Why is that?
Furthermore, I had Sharteel talk to a courtesan in the Low Lantern to see if there would be any funny interaction and they just directed her to some gigolo. I looked for him to see what would happen next, but could not find him. I was hoping she'd go off on him. I guess not.

Also, the other day, I had the game up and went to go do my hair, thinking I had paused. When I returned to the room, Viconia was hitting on Sharteel! She was like, "I respect you more than the others." Sharteel rebuffed her advances, however, saying, "Flattery will get you nowhere." I was surprised that she didn't respond more positively. Well, I guess it is still a PG game, after all.

Also, Xzar has been reporting to someone about our movements, it seems. He's so dreamy!

Lastly, I tried to pick up Tiax The Mighty, but his stats were so awful- he's a lousy thief who can't shoot a bow or a crossbow because he's also a lousy cleric...Very disappointing. I really want to get rid of Imoen. I wish I could find something to change her alignment so she'd be more fun.

All right, that's it for now.

Unless you are a thief yourself, I would strong recommend keeping Imoen. She is very useful as the game goes along, plus I find she develops into a good character.

As to the gender references, can't really add much to help you. I pretty much left the bums and working girls alone.

Don't trust Xzar. I dumped him pretty early on. No wait, I kicked him out of the party, him and his companion, then killed them both. Didn't suffer any reputation loss either.

Where in Oregon do you hail from? I grew up in Oregon. No, really I did.

No way on the dumping Xzar! He's too cool. My characters are mostly evil, so he's happy. Even if he double crosses me, I'll still love him- maybe even more.

I am in the Portland area. I moved here a couple years ago from San Francisco, and before that, Los Angeles. It's quite the change living here. Portland is really such a small town sort of place. I like the beauty of the area, though. Until moving here, I had never really seen leaves change color in the fall! It's really spectacular. What part were you from and why'd you leave?

It sounds like you would prefer Montaron, Xzar's companion, as your thief to sticky-sweet Imoen. Once Monty levels up he's a strong character. He joins with something like 60% stealth and strenght and dex are pretty good. Oh--btw, if you don't care for the goody goody characters then you may go into convulsions if you pick up Alora! (Do it though, actually, she has some very funny lines.)

SixOfSpades 12-04-2001 10:25 PM

Man, I couldn't STAND Alora.....as Thieves go, she's even better than Coran, and that's saying a lot! Except she's too weak (and too nice)to Backstab. But that voice! GOD, that voice! I wanted to throttle her.

I'll echo Lemernis on the Montaron-Thief issue, and also add the fact that everyone always forgets about Shar-Teel.....what, she has 10 CON and you use her as your Tank?

Midget Gems 12-05-2001 02:32 PM

Hi Six, looks like were back to discussing small people again, but this time I have to agree with you. Alora is excellent in the traditional thieving skills, but there's no way I'm gonna send her out front to find traps or do back-stabbing. Actually I teamed her with Tiax who is a good find traps specialist - he can even cure his own wounds if he makes a mistake. Alora was quite handy with her bow too.
As for Shar-Teel, is she any good if you dual her to theif, must have one hell of a backstab?

She certainly should. It was with a Fighter->Thief that I made my killer backstab of 144 Damage. She was Level 6/9 with a STR of 19 and 3 points in Small Sword. There's no reason why Shar-Teel couldn't acheive something close to that. I like the concept of some form of Fighter/Thief or Cleric/Thief for my Tank, so she can walk down dungeon corridors, slaying Kobolds AND finding Traps all by herself.

Sorry to go off topic here gang.

Katherine, I grew up in Roseburg Or. Small town in southern Oregon and went to college at OSU. I lived in Portland for about 3 months after I graduated from the Univ of Florida. Why did I leave? Graduate School in Florida then back to Florida to be with my (now) wife.

We now return you to your regualary scheduled BG discussion.

Nope, all the characters named in this thread are on straight BG1. If you've never met them, you need to explore more of the map, buddy! ;) There ARE no new NPCs with ToSC. :(
