Is there a Xzar and Montaron patch which is compatable with ToB, and which doesn't turn Monty into a pure thief?

What are the consequences of failing Anomen's subquest? Can he still be romanced? He loses wisdom doesn't he? What effect does this have on his Cleric abilities?

Not sure about the first half, but want to answer the second before anyone else to try and make it spoiler-free.

If Anomen's subquest fails, the outcome is expected. He doesn't lose anything, but something about him changes. Doesn't affect his romance (though the romance will take an interesting turn) and doesn't affect his cleric abilities.

Xzar and Montaron are recruitable NPCs only courtesy of The Darkest Day mod, and therefore there is no "patch" that will change this.

You can change this yourself, however, by using Shadowkeeper to locate and edit the various Montaron creatures to better conform to what you think he should be.

He doesn't so much as lose wisdom as not gain it. He doesn't get worse, but if you were banking on him gaining his wisdom via. his quest, no luck.

He'll be stuck with what he starts out with in terms of wisdom.

Thankyou all.
I'm tempted to replace Xzar with Edwin, and create a Montaron-like chacter in multi-player mode. How would I go about doing this, and could I give the new char Monty's voice?

  • Go to the FAQ thread and see if it's got a link to Sorcerer's Place. If not, you'll have to Google it, or ask around for tht URL.</font>
  • One you're there, dig around for the BG Soundsets. One of them is a .zip file that contains the voices of all 25 BG1 NPCs.</font>
  • Start a regular Single Player game.</font>
  • Play until you find Montaron's Body (or meet a recruitable Montaron). Make sure you've got a slot for a new party member. Save your game, and exit.</font>
  • Move the Savegame file from the "Save" folder to the "Mpsave" folder (you may have to create it).
Go back into the game, select "Multiplayer," load your saved game, and roll a Montaron (exactly as he was in BG1, no cheating now!) in the empty slot.</font>
  • Once you're playing and Monty is in your party, Save again, and exit.</font>
  • Move the game back into the "Save" folder.</font>
  • Go back into the game once more, Load up Single Player, and you're good to go. Montaron will never banter with anyone or have any quests, but from what I hear, the TDD Monty doesn't either.</font>
