I actually finished BG. Does it make sense to buy Tales of the Sword Coast now or can I better just go on to BG2? I have a save game from each chapter so I could in principle start anywhere in BG.

Welcome to IW !!
I would recommend ToSC! You gain extra xp and the dungeons and quests there are a lot of fun! |
get them both...but if you can only get 1 game I'd suggest BG 2
|
You get a slight starting boost in XP in BG2 if you import a character from TotSC as opposed to straight from Bg1 (161k from TotSC and 89k from BG1). Both games are good and worth buying, so if you can afford both go that route and play TotSC and then start BG2:SOA.

You can get more XP and reach a higher level if you play the Tales quests. Plus the Tales quests are a lot of fun, especially Durlag's Tower. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe your 'final game' save is right before the final battle. If so, and you were to open that save (or go to a save around that point if you have one), you could then leave the Undercity and go back out to do the four Tales quests. That way you could reach a higher level by the end of the game, which will put you in better stead for when you import the character into BG2. The ToSC cap is 161,000 whereas for BG1 alone it was only 89,000 (unless you installed the XP cap remover), so it it can mean a difference of two levels in some cases. Regardless, I think you automatically come into BG2 at level 7.

BUY TOTSC. Then buy BG2.
You will love yourself for getting the exp. Also you keep some of your items which will be quite a boost.... |
Agree with sir Degrader.Buy TOTSC first. It's nice to eventually play all the games in a row.BG,BG-TOTSC,BG2,TOB.That way you can really see a character grow.So if you can buy 1 game, buy TOTSC,it's great!!

Thanks for the enthousiasm everybody! Guess I will go out and get Tales of the Sword Coast tomorrow. It is Sinterklaas here in the Netherlands so I guess one more present will be okay.

Now that you mention it,welcome to the board, fellowdutchie!!
I have heard it's very hard to get a copy of TOTSC in Holland, probably only as a dualpack with Baldur's gate.If this changes your mind,Shadows of Amn is very good too :D CU |
