Ok, 'ello. So, I have always used Lilarcor with Misnc, cuz of the mind shield, but I've heard of many saying that misnc is much better dual-wielding, so I started my last game and planned to use Misnc as a regular Ranger - a bow, and dual-wielding with hide in shadows - but turns out I'm always using him in the front lines with Keldorn and Jah. So, I gave him a tuff armor, now he cannot scout anymore - wich kind sucks cuz Imoen can never hide, no matter how dark; and changing armor every now and then is boooring - so here is my two questions:
1 - should I forget about using Misnc as a tank, and take him as a plain ol' ranger? 2 - Should he wield Lilarcor? Should he Dual Wield? *if should he dual wield - wich weapons should he use? thx fer the help mates. |
Yeah, I always end up using Minsc as a heavily armored tank, either wielding a two-handed sword (Lilacor is a great choice early in the game, then the Silver Blade later), or sometimes dual wielding axe/mace/flail/hammer. Problem with dual wielding is that you have to level him up enough to get stars in the appropriate weapons.
I almost never have Minsc do the scouting or use him as a Ranger. In fact, you could argue that he should have been a Berserker kit instead of a Ranger (I think there are threads on this subject in the past). Bioware probably just wanted continuity between BG1 and BG2 and left him as a ranger with berserker ability. |
misnc is definitely a ranger - after all, "Boo likes the forest"!
in my last game minsc was mainly a two-handed weapon front liner using lilarcor and then the nice halberds that you find - only switching to 2HWS for undead fighting with the mace of disruption he's a solid scout though and i've used him like that before although it sounds like i'm happier than you to swap armour around |
minsc + crom fayr + decent longsword = machine of death
realistically, doing this only takes two proficiency points, one in each. as a ranger he can only put two total anyway. one star in hammers for the crom and one in longswords (so he doesn't sound quite so stupid screaming "evil meet my sword"). next point goes in longswords and the point after that on the final dual weild. |
I've changed Minsc in my game... the guy is NOT a Ranger, and I've edited him into a Berserker.
He's called a Rashaman Berserker at one point, and he doesn't even have the minimal stats to be a Ranger! I'm currently using him as a dual weilder, tanked to the max. I plan on giving him an axe for his main hand, and having Crom Faeyr in his off-hand. [ 09-29-2004, 01:35 PM: Message edited by: Klorox ] |
Put the Crom Faeyr in his main hand and the axe in the off-hand.

You're missing the point of dual weilding if you put CF in your main hand. You only get one attack with your offhand weapon, but CF's STR bonus applies to both hands.

I always give Minsc a two-handed sword, mainly because it means I can put a bow in his spare weapon slot, saving me from having to **** about with the inventory screen when I want to get a preliminary round in on an approaching enemy.
I also always give Minsc leather armour. Imoen's hide skill isn't good enough, Jan's points would be better spent on other skills, and neither Jan nor Imoen has a good enough THAC0 to do the stealth-sniper thing. The advantage of a 2H sword with leather armour is the extra reach means Minsc doesn't have to go in the front row, so the lower AC doesn't really matter. I would rather use Keldorn or Korgan as a tank. |
