I've been going through the game without any real troubles until now. I've actually completed the quest to rescue the child, but could not beat the group of vampires. Basically I had to do a very un-Paladin like thing and sneak away. I'll be back later for the dragon, and figured with an extra level or so I might have better luck, but it's nagging at me. Any advice for those guys? My party consists of: Me (Cavalier), Minsc, Aerie, Nalia, Valygar, and Jaheira. Not the most powerful, I know, but I'm not looking to change that. Just tactics.

You mean that group of vampires after the two/three golems? The best way to kill'em, if you don't have an experienced party, is to take one by one. Lure one or two of'em to the corridor where the rest of your party is and repeat... It may be boring but is the safest way to kill'em....
spoilers . . . . . get yourself Azuredge(that fat guy in copper coronet) and Daystar(with a lich in thee bridge district) they are kind of cheese, but if they are to be used at somehting it's definitely at vampires... I hate those damn level-suckers. |
this might be too obvious but have you got any items that prevent level drain? aerie can cast a spell to give some temporary protection but not enough
there's another undead smacking weapon available too (a mace) |
There was a thread about this a few months ago - see if you can find it.
What levels are you? Are you in chapter 2 or 3? Don't look for Daystar in the Bridge District. You'll be looking for a long time. ;) Let me know if you want its location, or if you prefer to find it on your own. Btw, Minsc does quite well against vampires - they're his racial enemy. But he still needs the right equipment and protection. [ 09-17-2004, 12:34 PM: Message edited by: Feral ] |
Use Aerie to memorize and cast the 4 level priest spell Negative Plane Protection on a tank (say your Cavalier) and then quickly attack the vampires (beware, the spell doesn't last to much). It would also be good if you could attack them with the Daystar or Azuredge.

Alternatively, purchase a scroll of Protection from Undead, cast it on one character and let him/her kick the Vampires to death.

Here is the old thread I was talking about: Spoil me

Thanks. Minsc has been a big problem in the fight so far - twice he was turned against me (or could he have been beserk?) and helped the vampires out. Just to show how naive I was against these guys, I went to use my Lay on Hands, noticed it wasn't available, and only then realized I was drained down to level 1.
I'm in chapter 3 but only level 10-11. Am I on track or am I low? |
Minsc was being Dominated by the vampires. This can be a big problem when you meet a big pack of vampires because they all use this spell on the first party member they see (often a fighter, who has crappy saving throws). Given enough Domination spells, Minsc is guaranteed to fail a saving throw at some point. Maybe you could protect Minsc against Domination prior to the fight?

To help Minsc, give the spell Chaotic Commands a try. I've always found him vulnerable to dire charm/domination. Not that bright, I guess.
I was asking about which chapter you're in not so much because of your level but rather to find out if you've chosen sides in the guild war yet. Who are you working for? [ 09-17-2004, 05:54 PM: Message edited by: Feral ] |
