I had a recenter incident where Anoment threatened to whack Mazzy, citing that no halfling could ever be a paladin. My char intervened and Anomen backed down. It could have been the banter pack, though I seem to recall some voice-acting.

Anyone run across this banter? Do Mazzy and Anomen ever actually fight? And why does Anomen keep referring to his "blade" if he can't even use one?

I also read somewhere that high protaganist charisma can prevent inter-party bickering. True?

They don't actually fight, but it's clearly not one of the better relationships in the game. And yes, it's an original dialogue.

Well, Anomen follows Helm, and Helm priests do have blades IIRC.

BG2 is based on 2nd edition D&D rules. According to this ruleset, certain classes are prohibited from using certain weapons (mages can't use anything heavy, clerics can't use bladed weapons, etc.). It didn't work. 3rd edition D&D took away that rule. There's a mod out there (maybe at the Gibberlings Three?) that puts strength and dexterity requirements on wielded weapons instead of class requirements.

IIRC, that's Ashes of Embers, available at Pocket Plane Group.

It may have been at Volothamp's Comeuppance where you read that. It is at least probably true: Both in BG1 and BG2, some NPCs hate other NPCs to the point where they will eventually break from the party and fight each other to the death. From the reports that I've recieved, it appears that the length of time that the NPCs are willing to tolerate each other's company is proportional to the Charisma of the PC, or at least the Party Leader. (Other factors, such as maintaining a Reputation level agreeable to all, are most likely taken into account as well.

Charisma has no effect (as far as I can tell) on scripted banters occuring in BG2, and since the "fights-to-the-death" are triggered by the banters, being the most charming guy in the world won't keep Valygar and Minsc from trying to kill Edwin. But it does appear to work in BG1.
