OK, I had a sorc named Irenicus (he's a clone) who I used in a party through ToB. I liked him so much I quit my assasin to play him solo. I've done the circus and killed Captian Heagan (after 5 attempts). Besides not having a party, I'm playing on Core instead of Normal this time. These questions have probably all been answered before, but I can't find them, and I am the embodiment of a n00b.
I have trouble with traps. Up till now I've just stoneskinned and walked over them, but I think there must be a better way. I have trouble with groups of fighters. I've been using stoneskin, magic missle, skull trap and sometimes cromatic orb, but I don't think that strategy will work forever. What should I do? I will have trouble with other mages. Which spell protections and removers should I use? What am I going to do about those super magic resistant creaturs? Summon fodder 2, stoneskin and lower resistance four times? |
Stoneskin/mirror image/spell immunity will do fine for traps!
|
I know there is a Detect Trap spell, but i don't know if it's not a priest spell, anyway u could use this to detect traps and evoid them; also there is a the Ease of Use mode that can make the traps and locks be no more. You can download it here.
The Cloak of Mirroring is a very good item that protects you from any spell damage(it reflects it back to it source). |
I probably should have played a human to be more like Irenicus, but OMG! An elf can make things turn pink in the dark!
Thanks, I just thought there was some secret way to stop traps. Now I have to learn mirror image and spell immunity... |

Also using area affect spells which slow, knock out or web opponant(s) can help you, just make sure you stand on the edge of the area and bombard them with spells. Spells like colour spray which knock people out (i think after a certain level people are immune to it, not sure) can be helpful if people are whacking at you Quote:

As for super magic resistant creatures *cough*dragons*cough* some have the ability to kill all summoned creatures with a wave of their claw. |
Mirror image is better than stoneskin for most traps; the trap merely takes out one of your images, with no hit point loss.
Web can be surprisingly effective against both groups and mages. Use wizard's eye to locate them. Cast web 5 times from an out-of-sight position, and then use wands of either cloudkill or fireball to hit them repeatedly. NB do not use up your spell slots with cloudkill or fireball - use wands instead. Once you reach level 15 do not engage the enemy in person. Send in 5 skeleton warriors under the guidence of a wizard's eye. Once you get project image, use same tactic as above, but send in 50 skeleton warriors - then get bored with how easy it is and see if you can change all your enemies into squirrels instead. |
I have a love of Sunfire as a solo Sorcerer. There is nothing that Sunfire can't do (unless they're completely immune to fire). Load it up with a Spell Trigger, let it loose. Surrounded? Sunfire! No idea what to do with those level 5 slots that are almost never used (at least they weren't for me)? Sunfire! Trolls on your case? Sunfire!
Now, once you get to the higher levels, be prepared to be bored out of your wits. Your spells are powerful. Your summons are powerful. Your equipment is powerful. Hell, everything except for the enemy is powerful. |

. . . . . . . . . . . He was an elf and he was much more powerfull back then, now that he's a human (cause he's cursed) he's not that powerfull anymore. And the "turning in pink stuff" is called infravision ;) (elves can see very well in the dark, unlike humans ). |
