'ello. I have just started a new game with one. I thought it would be a really versatile class, with melee and casting masterfully combined into a juggernaut of destruction. Well, I consider that might be true if you are an experienced player that actually knows how to make your Cleric real tuff, but I'm really a noob when it comes to spells. I have just recently realized how important the mages are to a party. I have searched through a lot of previous topics and learned a bit 'bout buffing, but anyway I had thought Clerics would be a bit better than what I'm experiencing with mine. So, what do you think about Clerics? are they really a nice class? are they boring, what?
anyway here goes mine: 14 str 16 dex 16 const 10 int 18 wisdom 10 charisma proficiency: 1 flail 1 war hammer 1 sling 1 sword and shiled. any advices regarding Cleric usage are welcome. later. |
I wrote a large reply earlier, then my internet froze during posting so I'll write a condensed version:
- Use your sling and, if you can, summoned creatures to keep enemies away from you. I would recommend increasing your dexterity to 18 or maybe 19 by being an elf or halfling. - Replace most healing spells with offensive spells, even if they are bad. With the Rest Until Heal option on, healing spells are almost useless when soloing. - Be sure to use items with rechargeable abilities. If you skip one on a day, it was that much harder for you to survive that day. - If you don't mind being evil, play as a Cleric of Talos. They are by far my favorite Cleric to play as when soloing, since they can render themselves immune to elements and normal missiles a few times a day, and know Lightning Bolt, a nice offensive spell for soloing Clerics. Have fun with your game! -Brainless One |
Clerics are my favorite class, but I like multiclassing them (with fighter or ranger) or dual classing them (starting off as a berserker) even better.
They're awesome in a party, and can be considered the glue that holds a group together. You're not soloing, are you? |
Solo Cleric Through Weimer Land
Thomas Quest For Ascension Wade through pages of bad storytelling and I think you might find a few useful pointers. If you want your cleric to be a strong fighter, I would suggest a Cleric of Lathander if you want your fighter side to be as strong as possible while also maintaining your spellcasting ability. Dual-wielding combined with Boon of Lathander and Imp Haste gives you 6 ApR, which works fine even for the end game. Just buff up with Draw Upon Holy Might, Holy Power and Righteous Magic before a fight, and you'll be able to melee as well as any fighter. |
(I don't think he's soloing)

Holy s*** no no I'm not soloing... eek! hehe, can't imagine gettin thru the Twisted Rune guys alone, but anyway thx fer your thoughts, i just needed someone to tell me clerics are a good class, cuz I was startin to get nervous 'bout mine.

Choose spells that you've found useful yourself. Chaotic Commands is always good. So is Protection from Evil 10 radius. Instead of filling up with damaging spell (ie: Firestorm), I would choose buffing up or healing spells (ie: Greater Restoratiohn).

cleric are good - they can cast their spells in full plate armour!
they're a fair bit more powerful if you dual to cleric from a fighter at about level 9 though - it increases your fighting ability (by increasing attacks per round) at very little cost to your cleric side |
