I've decided to create a Ranger/Cleric for one of my next BGII games and would like some suggestions for weapon proficiencies. The character will be an elf, so he should have a +1 bonus in long sword and bow. So those two options seem like an automatic choice, but I would like to hear some suggestions for different proficiencies and why you would recommend them. Are there versions of the weapon in the game that are unusual or very powerful in certain situations (such as Daystar).

What about possible melee combinations (since he will most likely fight two-weapon style).

I'm also looking for ideas that many gamers may not think of or be aware of. For instance, now that Illyich drops a Club +3 and Weapons Upgrade allows you to create a very powerful club by combining Gnasher and Blackblood - the suggestion of learning how to use the club has suddenly become extrememly attractive. And of course, the Acid Kensai and his infamous sword has made katanas even more popular than they were before.

So let me hear what fresh ideas you have for weapons my elven ranger/cleric could use.

Remember - you can only use blunt weapons!

Here's what you can do:
Mace of Disruption - undead die
Flail of Ages - mages die
Crom Faeyr - golems die
Fulcrum - everything else dies

MWUERHAHAHA ;)

Actually, FoA kills everything, thanks to the handy slow.

tis true tis true.

and elves can't be ranger/clerics, only half-elves can.

In one of my games there is also a solo C/R. Now that I have not played BG 2 for weeks I forgot how powerful he is but he is a Dual-Wielding destructor. With Ironskins, Chaotic Commands, Death Ward, DUHM, Blade Barrier, Nature`s Beautry, DoE +3 and FoA/CFayear/Fulcrum you can be pretty deadly and kill everything. Also you don`t have any problmes with Liches.

I know. I just found that out at the GameBanshee site. Actually, that's alright. I had forgotten about the weapon restrictions (blunt weapons only), so the elven bonuses for long sword and bow would be worthless anyway. (as you can tell, I don't play multi-class characters very often).
