I realize many of the veteran gamers probably already know this information, but I admit that the Bhaalspawn abilities of the PC were something I didn't really pay much attention to until I tried my first solo game and actually needed to start using those abilities more often.

Also, I think that the character's alignment may not always be given the same attention and focus as his/her stats and abilities. While those are more important for the character's overall performance in the game, knowing which abilities they will gain for each alignment might help give more consideration in the creation process and might help you "round out" your chosen character a little better.

The Bhaalspawn abilities received for each alignment are:

Lawful Good & Neutral Good Cure Light Wounds(2), Slow Poison(2), Draw Upon Holy Might(2)
Chaotic Good Cure Light Wounds(2), Slow Poison(2), Draw Upon Holy Might(1), Vampiric Touch(1)

Lawful Neutral Larloch's Minor Drain(1), Cure Light Wounds(1), Slow Poison(1), Horror(1), Vampiric Touch(1), Draw Upon Holy Might(1)
True Neutral Larloch's Minor Drain(2), Slow Poison(1), Horror(1), Vampiric Touch(1), Draw Upon Holy Might(1)
Chaotic Neutral Slow Poison(1), Larloch's Minor Drain(1), Slow Poison(2), Draw Upon Holy Might(1), Vampiric Touch(1)

Lawful Evil & Chaotic Evil Larloch's Minor Drain(2), Horror(2), Vampiric Touch(2)
Neutral Evil Larloch's Minor Drain(1), Cure Light Wounds(1), Horror(2), Vampiric Touch(1), Draw Upon Holy Might(1)

I belive there is a random factor too, it dosen't just depend on the alignment...

For example, i just started a CG elven fighter/mage and got: Cure Light Wounds(2), Slow Poison(2), Draw Upon Holy Might(2).

No Vampiric Touch..

that slow poison is useless for a solo character as well isn't it? i've never managed to cast it without being interrupted by the poison damage

Well it's not impossible. You should try it right after you get damage from the poison. I succeeded multiple times IIRC

hmm - i'll give it another go then - i'm soloing an archer at the minute so it comes up a fair bit

Hmmmm...that's odd. One of my first attempts at a solo character was with a Chaotic Good PC and I got the abilities listed above. I even went back and RE-created him as Neutral Good to get the 2nd Holy Might.

I generated my list by actually creating 9 different characters (one for each alignment) to see what abilities the game gave them. I chose several different classes and races (sometimes creating 2 versions of a particular alignment to see if race or class changed their abilities).

You may be right, though. Perhaps there is a "random factor" for the Chaotic alignments to reflect their "unpredictable" nature. I noticed that the Chaotic alignments were the only ones with different abilities when choosing either Good or Evil. Being Neutral also seems to generate different abilities based on Lawfulness, Balance, or Chaos.

Oh well, at least the abilities listed above will still act as a good guideline for character creation.

Good research, Cerek!

Larloch's Minor Drain is very good at the begining. You can cast almost instantaneously and it disrupts the spell casters (Zhivago and Duergar boys come to mind first).

And Horror is also very handy - you can attack the running enemy with ranged weapons.

I actually based my character for a NRL game on these abilities - True neutral seems the best for me.

I haven't experimented with this too much, but innate Vampiric Touch seems to sometimes go wild and drain unbelievable (relatively speaking) amounts of HP.

If you import a BG1 character into BG2, the list of Bhaalspawn powers will follow the BG1 character, regardless of alignment.
