Your character has a stat for intelligence. Yet the genie in the circus tent, the imp in watchers keep and Neb in the flaming fist HQ in BG1 all ask you maths questions. This seems unfair on people who give their characters a high intelligence but are not too bright themselves. A person who has a problem with maths playing an int 19 illusionist will fare worse than a mathmatician playing a int 9 barbarian. Does this seem strange to anyone else?

If there was a highlight for the correct answer (for dumbass(RL)mages), and perhaps a wrong highlight for barbarians it would make sense. The fact remains that the AD&D system isn't that good for this kind of thing.

play planescape torment. That actually uses the stats.. I can't complain too much, but BG series its too easy to make a powerhouse with low int and wisdom stats, and still be able to get most of game, planscape its actually better to have super high int and wisdom, even if you arent a mage, as you are more intelligent!
Fallout does this too.... |
I *would* think that the game would base some of those choices on the PC's (or the person answering the riddle's) Intelligence score. It would seem easy enough. Add two answers to the options list for every stat under 10 the character has in Intelligence for the math questions or Wisdom for the riddles, and subtract one for every point above 10.

In NWN if your pc's int gets below 9, your character is unable to speak properly. |
This might be a little off topic, but my all time favorite computer RPG character was either a Fallout or Fallout 2 (Can't remember which) guy with intelegence at a 2 out of 10. He couldn't talk to anyone and just grunted. He didn't last very long because I couldn't do any quests, couldn't trade with anyone at all. Real fun!

yeah if your int is below 4 on that game, you can hardly get any quests, although you can have a proper conversation with Torr - the tribal near the edge of klamath whose brahim you guard- its funny

I finished Fallout 2 with an INT 2 character. There are a few merchants you can trade with.
