I have gone through quite a bit of the game and I can't for some reason select Windswept Hills as a travel destination even though it appears on my strategic map.
Is there someone beside "Lord Firekraag" that I need to talk to before I can go there? I want to get rid of these acorns...

Lord Firkraag asks you to clear out the Windspear Hills, and he is the only one that puts that location on your map, so you have obviously already talked to him. Did you try to leave through the city gates? The first time you try to travel into the wilderness, you have to go to the Gates District and actually walk through the main gate. Once you do that, the outdoor areas will "activate" and allow you to select them. You only have to do this once; after that it will let you just select the area and leave, without ever having to go back to the Gates District (though you might want to go back there anyway at least once... ;) ).

What level is your party? If you are just out of the first dungeon, you might want to hold off on going to Windspear Hills right away. It tends to be a little tougher than some of the areas out there. At the very least stock up on some extra equipment and/or potions to help you out.
