when i get to the underdark my game play pauses every second or do for a fraction of a second. this is extremely annoying as it causes the cursor along with everything else on the screen to appear jerky. i have no issues with this except when i am in the underdark. i have installed all the patches and updates to no avail. i am about to give up and buy another copy of the game. thanks in advance for any help

Go to start, hit run, and type in
dxdiag

Go to the display tab and disable your 3d accelorator. See if it speeds things up, cuz BG2 doesn't even use the 3d accelorator, so it just slows it down.

Yes, it could be a graphics issue, or...

It could be a script running in the Underdark to check your inv or your status for some purpose. Do you have any mods? Do you have a Bag of Holding with like a TON of numbered items, like over 200 arrows, or tons of potions? Try turning off your character's AI, and if you have huge stacks of items try getting rid of some on the ground, see if that fixes it. Just one possible idea.

I had the same problem with the stuttering when I had Valen in my party. I thought I read somewhere about a problem occuring when Adalon changes your avatars into drow and you have certain mods installed. If you have the ease of use mod there is a selection that disables the drow avatars on your party for this very reason. As far as I know it stops once you get out of the Underdark if you can put up with it for that long.
