I have a real problem-can not open the
portal to go down in the lower levels in
Watcher,s tower. tried every thing,gave
slippers to priest. How do i open the portal?
can not preform the Ritual. Help!!!

Do you have the bell and candle already? If you dont, find those. Then go to the altar in the middle of the map. A holy book will be there, so you only have to insert the candle and bell. Then a window will open with options, so choose them in this order:

Ring Bell
Ring Bell again
Lite Candle
Open Book
Ring Bell

After this, there will be a pretty challenging battle, so be ready. IIRC, the portal should open after this.

Yes i have all the items but can not get
them on the alter. can not even get bell to
ring. all items will do is land on the floor
and i pick them up again. what am i doing
wrong.

No ido not have a patch for this Collection
edition. I hate to think i have to start over
and stay away from this part.

No no, don't, simply get the patch from the sticky thread at the top of the BG2 board page.
Edit- Of course, I also suggest that you load the game to a point before encountering this problem. I hope you have a quicksave from before you tried this, or, at the very least, the Autosave from entering the Keep.
