I'm trying to convert BG2 NPC character sounds into a format where I can burn them to a cd, which will play in a standard cd player. So far, I've downloaded a group of programs originally from TeamBg (acm2wav, acm-wavc, and wavc), but am having trouble converting some of the sounds. The music hasn't been a problem (acm to wav), but I either can't find or can't convert the NPC voices. Are they located in the music folder or the sounds folder? If they're the ones in the sounds folder, I can neither play them "as is" or convert them as "wave to wave." Anyone know what the problem is? Also, is there a list floating around anywhere about which file names go with which NPC quote?

Any help is appreciated.

Im not sure but why do you want to do that? If you tell us what you are ultimately wanting then maybe we can suggest an alternative, (i.e what are you going to do once you get them onto CD) that is easier for you.

The NPC voices are stored in the .bifs and indexed in the .key. Simplest way to get at them would be the NearInfinity program, although you will need a javaVM isntalled for that to work, which modern windows lacks, so get one from Sun. IF you get NI working, it should be able to use acm2wav and export to standard format directly. I havent set this up in a while, but I think all you have to do is make sure the .exe is in the right folder.

Or, theres the winBIFF program from teambg which will also let you extract files from the .bifs, but it dosent integrate with acm2wav.

Could you not use WinBiff, and then ISC (Infinity Sound Converter) to manually convert the files to WAV format? You can find both programs at TeamBG's website.. A bit time consuming, but I think that might work.

Thanks for the help, all. I'm going to give your ideas a shot, maybe post the same question at teambg. I didn't realize that was still an active site. I'm not really into hacking- I just play with audio cds and sometimes dvds.

As for what I'm trying to do, you heard me right. I'm making cds to put in the cd player. Having sound clips- Matrix quotes, a classic Minsc line- can make for a more interesting compilation cd.
