i have just started an elven assasin in SoA and i was
wondering if any of yall have any suggestions on some tactics or strategies and also what equipment i should go after. my stats are str:17 dex:19 con:16 int:10 wis:10 cha:10 and scimater, shortbow, katana, and 2-weapon fighting all have one star peace |
have you been through the game already?
If not, do you really want to be spoiled? are you soloing or planning on recruiting NPCs? more info please As for general tactics: Hide in Shadows and Backstab a lot as this is the main advantage of the assassin. And use the Poison weapon function now and then. Especially on mages it works wonders. |
Your proficiensies are abit odd I think, doesn't two weapon fighting kind of suck unless you have atleast 2 stars? I would suggest single weapon style instead.. will help you get better AC and you can switch to a ranged weapon fast

Reminder: Careful with the explicits, this IS a family forum.
To "coat your weapon with poison" you only use the according special ability during the fight and for the next seconds your weapon will be dealing poison damage in addition to the normal kind (if you CAN hit the enemy that is). |
sorry about that...so the poison thing only works
for like three seconds if you are hiding in shadows will it make you leave shadows. peace |
Poison Weapon lasts longer than 3 seconds. It's 15 seconds. More than enough time for you to coat your weapon, go stealth and backstab someone.
If you are already in stealth mode, using the ability will cancel the stealth, but there's nothing to stop you from re-stealthing afterwards. Poison Weapon generally works better with ranged weapons that have a high rate of attacks per round(ApR) as the poison damage stacks with each successful hit. Examples of such weapons include Darts and a certain shortbow. Both have 3 ApR and can easily deal a lot of poison damage. 15 seconds is roughly 2 and a half rounds. So in theory, you can have about 7-8 hits before you need to re-poison. |
I just finished the game with an elven assassin. It's almost pathetic how fast some encounters can just fall apart with him. Boots of speed, a ring of invisibility on either hand, and a bunch of potions of invisibility make the boy a killing machine. Once you get up in the levels, several well-placed backstabs decimate almost any enemy group. And as mentioned by Faceman, mages are highly allergic to the assassin's poisoned weapon. If they survive the initial backstab, the poison keeps them from casting any nasty spells, and usually finishes them off for you slowly and painfully while you flit in and out of sight placing a few more kidney removal operations.
I never tried Dundee's idea with the ranged weapons, however. It never even crossed my mind. I'll have to test this theory in Throne of Bhaal. |
Interesting. I started solo evil assassin on Core but with the newest Tactics mod. I intend not to use scrolls when I get UAI. I am also playing with Rogue Rebalancing mod which among other things gives all rogues possibility of putting *** in dual wielding.
Something for Blinky501 to reconsider. I will also backstab only with daggers. My other weapon for "visible" fighting will be scimitars. Ilyich should be fun. :D |
