Ok so Ive dusted off the bgt cds again, and Im ready for a shot at a solo from bg1 right through to the end of TOB. bearing in mind I have never solo'd before, although I know bg1 like the back of my hand, and bg2 is getting that way aswell, what would you recommend? I want something which will actually allow me to complete the game, but which will prove some sort of a challenge (although I suppose any solo does). I thought maybe F/M/T although that sounds a bit boring, can you dual a barbarian? maybe barb/mage or barb/thief or barb/cleric? Also I wouldnt mind trying a kensai/mage although I have never been a kensai before (well I have but I didnt go very far)
So any opinions? Im not sure which difficulty setting to play on either, I wouldnt mind trying insane, just to make the game even more challenging, but Im not sure. |
I'd suggest the Kensai/Mage (or a fighter/mage). It's well worth the try if you've never done it before.
For a challenge you could try a sorcerer :D (though the assassins at Friendly Arm Inn could get ugly) or a monk like I did. You know, I guess now I'll really pick up that sleeping monk of evil again ;) |
yeh, you never did finish the monk did you? I was waiting to see the end. I thought about monk, but again, I have never been one before and dont really know the first thing about them. As for sorceror, nah. They seem to easy (like you taking the piss shows :D ) and I just dont like them all that much.

You cant dual or multiclass a barbarian.
Sorcerors are easy at the end but not at the start, infact very weak at the start. I would recommend a swashbuckler. Dualled to fighter maybe. I dunno, whatever you havent played before, but if you dont multi or dual classs i feel it may get boring for you. |
yeh, I definately want a dual or multiclass, swashbuckler would be quite nice since I like to have thieving abilities. maybe swashbuckler/figher. is F/M/T good or is it boring? Also what about Kensai/mage or fighter/mage, are they fun?

Fighter/mage rocks. Unstoppable, unkillable, cheesy and yellow from level 1/1 till the end. :D
Generic archer-->mage is also cheesy. (Provided you have tactics mode). They are fun (apart from being yellow), and very strong. After certain level any "spell casting solo" is easy. Time stop+ GWW =dead enemy. And sorcerer is a walking arsenal of destruction when he can cast 9 level spells. Just refer to Dundee's spell pick list, and gg. |
Ok, im gona be starting tonight, any other suggestions?

My best wishes Ross.
A prime suggestion is to carefully manage what you need, as you'll have a lot less inventory slots with one guy (A lesson I had to learn). If it's your first solo I'd definitely take a thief or thief multi/dual. Reason: TRAPS. Unless your PC knows every trap (and its type) ahead (which would be a bit cheesy, quickload or not) it can be very painful especially in BG1 where you have not all too much HP. You may also want to go for at least mediocre strenghth (cheese or not) because YOU will be carrying those 200lbs items etc. |
ok, thanks Faceman, I know where most of the bg1 traps are, but bg2 is a bit more hazy. I saw the post on Half orc Kensai, has anyone tried that solo? It sounds good except no thief? If not I think Il go for FMT.

I woulden't recomend a solo PURE kensai. They are flank attackers and rely on a good tank to soak up the damage. But on the other hand I'm sure it can be done with alot of potions and such.
