Recently I was forced to uninstall BG from my computer. Howeverm clever as I was (at least I thought)I copied my "saved game files" in order to, after re-installing BG, putting them back into the saved game-folder and continue to play.. How wrong I was! Everything worked fine, I installde BG, copied the files and got as far as to choose saved game to load. All my previos games was there BUT when I tried to load them an error occured: "error runtime BGmain.exe" (or something like that) and the game was aborted and I was kicked out to windows.
When I tried to start BG again it complained abot some "assertion error in D:\..\.. ALTHOUGH I DIDN´T EVEN USE D:!!

If I, when tis error occur, empty the "temp" directory, I´m able to load BG again but whith the same results as above.

Starting a NEW game and loading this again and again works however!!!

HELP!!!

Hi Sven, and Welcome to the Board!

I think there are more people with this problem and it could have somehing to do with the expansion. So:
Did you or do you have Tales of the Sword Coast installed?

Actually I don´t. Should I try Installing it?

First: You should make sure that you have the exact same game config that you had before you uninstalled the game.
If you had TotSC instlaled before, install it again.
Patch to what ever level you were patched to before.

Also, whats the letter of your CD drive?

Also if it is an assertion error you go to the folder you have BG installed in go into the cache and delete everything thts in there (but to be on the safe side make a copy first) and then restart the computer and try again now it should work perfectly but if symptons persist please see a doctor (interplay website is a good place to start if things we say dont work) and dont delete the actual cache folder jst the stuff inside of it

As I remember it I used the "recommended install" and neither did I have TotSC installed nor did I have any patches (which is the same way I have it now)..

We have two CD-drives D:\ and E:\

By "cache" I guess you mean the "temp" folder? If I empty it, the assertion-error goes away and I may load BG again. Only to come back after I have failed loading my "inserted" save-files..

It almost has to be a problem with compatibility.

You know TotSC actually "translates" your save game files, and you can no longer use them with just BG. Patches are the same. It's got to be something along these lines because the chances are pretty small that ALL your saves would be corrupt.

Nope, i mean the cache folder delete everything in it then restart the computer and during bootup all missing files are replaced (but i would still just cut and past them sumwhere to be on the safe side)

I had such problem two times. Once it happened that my save files had read-only attribute and the second time problem was with numeration of saves I think.
What I have done: started new gave, saved and quit game, then copied old saves (these had higher numbers, - I deleted saves with the same numbers), and then everything was OK.

That is a very good answer! This may definately be the answer to your problems!
