Does anyone have a comprehensive list of offensive spells which bypass MR? I've been trying to find one for a while, but with extremely limited success.

Also, does anyone have a list of which "turn undead level" affects which undead in what way?

Thanks in advance.

[Edit on April 6: OK - how about _any_ list? It doesn't have to be comprehensive!]

EDIT: ok while it is comprehensive it's only for SoA... not ToB

Wait a sec--I thought Sunfire does ignore MR. I never use it myself, but I believe it's Xyx's Spell Reference that specifies the sadistic glory of Sunfire in "making those Drow suffer."

Erm, yes, it does ignore MR...last time I checked, it did, anyway.

Thanks to all - I'm off to fight those pesky magic-resistant critters. I'm tired of just feeding summons to the mindflayers.

IIRC, Sunfire ignores the enemy's MR. It however checks for MR when it hit party members.

The version of Sunfire that appears in the game biffs (SPWI523.SPL in Data\Spells.bif) does not bypass magic resistance. Check out the byte at offset 0x1c7 -- it's 1, or "cannot be dispelled, does not bypass MR", and it applies to the fire damage effect of the first ability header. The other damage effects are all similar (across all headers).

I was surprised because I also remember hearing somewhere that it bypassed MR. However, that doesn't seem to be the case for the default game (some mod may change it, though).

BTW, it's worth noting that the game actually implements Sunfire using the same "projectile" as a normal Fireball spells -- it's just always centered on the caster. The first thing Sunfire does is grant the caster 100% fire resistance. Then it does its fire damage to everyone caught in the projectile.

Based on the rest of the infinity engine, I would be quite surprised to discover that it bypasses MR for enemies caught in the blast but not for party members. Wonders never cease, though.
