Anyone ever make up their own kits and items?

Thief Kit:

Duelist

The Duelist strives to become the best fencer, and has a code of honor that they wouldn't dream of breaking.

Advantages:

Can attain Grand Mastery in Katanas after their 20th level.
Gains 3 proficiencies in Single Weapon Style and Two Weapon Style
Special ability "Duel" where they have more of a chance to hit their opponent and cause more damage.

Disadvantages:

Can only use the weapons Katana, Rapier, Dagger, and Dart.
May only become Proficient in Daggers and Darts.
Cannot use traps.
No backstab multiplier.
15 points to distribute for Thieving Skills for every level gained.
May not wear armor other than Elven Chainmail.
Gets exhausted after use of "Duel" Ability

Of course, I'm really no good at making up kits. That one is probably over-powered or under-powered. Any thoughts?

Yea, probably over-powered...

Anyway, the Rapier is an item that would fall under the Katana Category. There are Long Sword Rapiers, Short Sword Rapiers, and Dagger Rapiers.

My next one is also a Thief kit:

Dagger Thrower
The Dagger Thrower seeks to master the dagger and dart in all it's forms.

Advantages:

All enchanted daggers and darts gain an extra +1 to hit after level 15.
At level 10, unenchanted throwing daggers gain a +1 to hit
-Level 15, +2 to hit
-Level 20, +3 to hit
-Level 25, +4 to hit, set's speed factor of Throwing Daggers (Unenchanted) to 0
-Level 30, +5 to hit

Disadvantages:

May only put proficiencies in Daggers, Darts, and Single Weapon Style

Heh, ok I bet that's over-powered too! However, I think that Throwing Daggers should be used more often in the game, other than those returnable ones.

Any suggestions? Anyone want to show what kits they've thought of?

Can you actually make your own kits using IEEP? I don't remember an option for it.

Brainless One 03-27-2004 07:23 PM

No, but there is a kit editor or two available to download at the TeamBG website. If I remember correctly, it's

www.teambg.net/?page=tools/basiccustomizing

A couple lines up from the bottom is the kit editor, though you may need to download the file package near the top for it to operate right.

I made a kit just an hour ago actually, but something went wrong. He isn't able to put profiencies in anything (page is blank), and the special abilities I had for him aren't in game, though they show up in things like Shadow Keeper. Oh well.

Cool, what was the Kit?

Jerr, if you want to make kits I would recomend that you check out some of the weidu tutorials over at:
fwstudios - www.fwstudios.net
forgotten wars - www.forgottenwars.net
Very good tutorials.
There are usefull hints on the teambg tutorial page.
www.teambg.net
If you need specific help making something pm me and i'll see what I can do, but it has been a while.

Hehe, I suck at all of the Infinity stuff.

For some reason, I just can't learn and apply it all. Even Weidu (I heard that's easier).

Although I'm not really looking to make kits. I was just wondering what people's ideas are for kits.

I kind of doubt the two kits I thought of are balanced. Expert opinions anyone?

The daggerthrower doesn't sound overpowered, especially since many unenchanted daggers won't hit some creatures later on in the game. However, does this make it underpowered?

This thread encouraged me to hit IEEP again and make a new spell (well, innate ability).

Nature's Keeper (Necromancy, was thinking of conjuration first, but spirit armor has necromancy too, so I went with that since they're similar, kinda)

Only usable by Rangers
Gained at level: 6 in BG1, but level 17 in BG2. Sounds strange, but that's the way I like it.

A ranger is a powerful fighter, yet, at the same time has the ability to cast druidic spells. By using this spell, a ranger calls upon the protection of nature's creatures in a mental form. This creates a physical barrier around the ranger, which is in actuality the protective skins and layers of the animals that it comes from. For 10 glorius seconds, the ranger's AC is set to -15, giving him a chance to overcome an opponent quickly with a low risk of taking harm. This can be used in the thick of combat since its casting time is short, however, the duration itself is short as well. The caster becomes fatigued afterwards.
Castable once/day

What do you guys think. Overpowered?

Illumina Drathiran'ar 03-28-2004 04:51 PM

No, I don't think so... Ten seconds isn't much, it doesn't protect against spells, and some enemies *will* hit you with that AC anyway. Sounds decent enough.

IMO, the duelist is underpowered. His advantages are great and well thought out, but are well outbalanced by the harsh disadvantages. Think about eliminating some of them, or toning them down a bit. For example, instead of no backstab multiplier, how about just a low multiplier like 2? Getting exhausted after using the duel ability could have drastic and major effects. How about they just lose hitpoints? And only 15 points per level? Ouch! Seems to me like you've tried hard to keep it not overpowered that you've gone to far. Or maybe it's just me and my lust for power. Nonetheless, they are both cool and interesting kits that have had a lot of thought put into them. If they get made into kits, rest assured I'll download them! Great work, Jerr! I look forward to seeing any more future work.

Lord 03-28-2004 05:25 PM

Jaradu, the assassin only gets 15 points at each level up too, but it's still enough to go on.
