No sure about the spelling but I'm referring to the guy on top of Copper Coronet ho stole the ring of Lathander...
Now when asked to give the ring he asks you to swear you are a follower of Talos. In my previous (good alligned) games I remember I could do so and then lightning would strike me. Now I'm playing evil alligned and I dont get that option. I only get "I cannot mention that name". Any idea why is it so. How can I get that option to swear that I am Talosian. my reputation is 6 but I got it down to 1 and still didnt get the option. Also I talked with Edwin (high int, high cha with the ring) and Viconia (high wisdom)... I also got to wear the necklace of Talos. None of this helped... any suggestions? |
with an evil char i usually kill him.

Are you, in fact, a follower of Talos? That's a bit unclear at this point.
|
No I'm not a follower of Talos... that's why I swear that I am lightning will strike me down and I'll end up gfighting him anyway... that's what happened in my last two games... This time i dont get the option to say so...
Anyway, I just refused to swear... the outcome is same anyway you will have to fight... I just thought swearing will fit better roleplaywise. |
No. If you're not a follower of Talos, then roleplaying would be to not swear to follow someone you don't.

Especially Talos. A short lesson in FR mythology is in order.
Gods in the Realms are not omnipresent. They can see things by walking around (granted, their senses are miles long, but that's not very important) or by having their attention drawn. This happens when a mortal speaks the god's name or title, or if something happens that is related to the god's portfolio (ie, Selune, goddess of the moon, can see anything that happens under the light of the moon. Eilistraee, goddess of good-hearted drow, would be able to sense a drow considering turning away from Lloth.) Talos is notorious for being violent and unpredictable. Even an evil char would think twice before swearing alliegance to any god not their own... This would bring the god's attention, and certainly their wrath. And it would be obvious to almost anyone that the wrath of Talos would be swift and painful. |
I knew that.. But my guy is chaotic evil he would cheat and lie to achieve his goals... he is also arrogant enough not to give a damn about the gods.
EDIT: hes also overconfident and stupid and not wise... just the kind of character who would swear allegiance to Talos without giving much thoughts to the consequences [ 03-21-2004, 06:41 PM: Message edited by: ZFR ] |
For what it's worth - I'm playing evil for the first time right now and have run into the same issue. It'll take someone with more knowledge of the game to tell you why, though.

Maybe you need a certain amount of intelligence or wisdom to attempt to trick them into thinking you follow their god (even though it doesn't work)?
|
I think it's plain and simple here,
If you're not a follower of Talos, a good person will lie to prevent anyone from being hurt. An evil person will not use the name of a god that they know will ultimately try to bring down fire and brimstone upon them. So I'm assuming that ONLY a Priest of Talos may say, 'Yo dude, I follow Talos, he's one bad mutha' and not be struck down |
