Yesterday, I installed a BG2 mod which corrupted my System.ini file (I ended up spending about 8 hours or so fixing the problem, took a long time since I was communicating with someone for help through IMs). Anyway, I had installed UB 4, which I was planning on keeping, and The Magnificent Magic Shop, which I was not planning on keeping. I doubt it was the UB 4 that ruined my computer, and I'm sure it was the magic shop instead. So, just in case people plan on installing that mod, I suggest you definately scan it with a virus protector. I'm sure not all copies of it corrupt your computer, it may be that I just downloaded a bad copy. But just a warning to you all incase you want this mod.

I also installed the "magnificent magic shop" and it fragged my BG2 game and weirded up my computer as well. I thought that it was maybe just me, but apparently not. Misery loves company.
Again, though ,maybe it was just a bad download or something. My anti virus didn't detect anything. That, I have found out to my chagrin ,sometimes means nothing . Good luck to anyone else who wants the MMS. some neat stuff ,but not worth the trouble I had with it. |
WHere did you download this from? The version I got from the creators website scans clean, and anyway dosent seem to include any infectable files.
Anyway, the advice for this has not changed in the past 15 years - scan everything you download, regardless of whether or not you trust the source. |

Agreed , there are many overpowered items and items that are supposed to do things, but don't.
It is neat to see some of the things and read the histories on them. I think that some of them would be awesome as rewards for some hard quests that often are a little skimpy sometimes. The Problem is they are all in one place and relatively cheap. Someone went to a lot of work to create that shop though and it is appreciated by all the fans out here that people are making mods to keep this game alive. Not every mod is for everybody Keep up the good work.! |
Yes, who are you getting this from? A person at DMR(See Link Below) is hosting a mod from there called the Magnificent Magic Store. Is this the same thing, or different?
|
That's the one.
I'm sure lots of people haven't had any problems, but I did. Just tellin it like it is. |
And you downloaded it right from the site? I'm gonna have to tell Taza if this is the case....
|
What what what what WHAT?! I'll drag Taza here ASAP.
EDIT This is a message from Taza on MSN. The parts in brackets are from me. I have first of all checked my projects folder, which was clean. I am now performing a total system scan on my computer. If my direct upload shows as clean, i am beginning to think that the virus may appeared from a computer on Deathmage's upload process (If this is indeed the case...then my utmost apologies), if both Sorcerers.net (http://www.sorcerers.net, check under Games -> BG2) and http://koti.mbnet.fi/taza2/ copies are clean. This error is being investigated, but as i am unable to register, this discussion may be trasferred to my modding forum at DMR (htt://www.dmrealms.net), so that i can get more direct information on the situation. Please do note that zap@mad.scientist isn't working anymore, and reports should be mailed to taza_insane@hotmail.com. [ 01-30-2004, 04:44 AM: Message edited by: Deathmage ] |
