doesnt thief skills get disabled by wearing heavier armour than studded leather?
I think it will be impossible to use this skill in full plate

No. I am currently soloing a fighter/mage/theif which is incredibly fun to play. But, I really need 2 (before I needed 3) sets of armour. One for maging (a robe) one for thieving (studded leather) and one for brawling (full plate). And yes, I have to change frequently because you cannot mage nor theif with full plate on. This includes ALL theif abilities including hide in shadows too, but if you hide THEN put on plate you seem to still be in shadows.... The main thing I like about my character is the sheer amount of buffing I can do. I can have a fireshield meaning every hit I take damages and enemy, mirror image, similcrums with my sword (Carsomyr with Use any Item ), the list in endless. Then I switch to full plate, and this (combines with buffing AC modifiers) brings me to an AC of 13-15 depending what im using as weapon.

So to answer the original question, no you cannot wear full plate and use thief abilities at the same time. (im not sure about traps though)

Hope this helps...

actually i'm almost certain that 'find traps' is the only thief skill that's usable with heavy armours (you have to undress to disarm) - although i suppose that might be a BG1 memory - anyone?

oh, and going into stealth and then putting on your full plate mail and sneakign behind the sentry silently? for shame! ;)

That's right: you can detect the traps while wearing full plate mail, but you can't disarm them until you take off the plate mail.

EDIT) what i wrote here was completely worng.

I am sincerely sorry. You can FIND TRAPS in full plate but not DISARM them.

I shall now retire from proffesional forum posting.

thank you for your co-operation in this matter.
