Okay, my PC is a cleric/ranger, and I've finished both the Umar Hills and Unseeing Eye quests. I finished the UH one first, and was offered the ranger stronghold. So when I complete the UE quest, I'm told I'm already occupied elsewhere, so my rewards won't be as great. Does this mean I can't get the cleric stronghold? Which is better? If the cleric one is, how do I dump the Ranger stronghold?
|
You can only get one stronghold, and AFAIK you can't dump one you've already accepted to take another (unless you have a mod - I believe there is one that allows you to have multiple strongholds). I've never had the cleric stronghold, but I have the ranger cabin atm. It's okay; not too inconvenient for access and plenty of storage. The quests are easy and you get okay rewards from them.

Well, the only way(s) to "dump" a Stronghold is to fail in the various missions assigned to you. You get a real bad-mouthing from everyone involved, and walk off feeling like a loser. But that's not what matters: What matters is whether losing your Stronghold will set the "PLAYERHASSTRONGHOLD" variable back to 0. But I'm afraid I can't provide you with the answer to that, as I don't know.
It *may* be possible, for instance, for a Multiclassed Fighter/Thief to get the Thief Stronghold, do the quests, and then fail to pay the dues, thus losing the Thief stronghold.....and then go clear the de'Arnise Keep and accept the Fighter stronghold. Then again, it may not. But that won't help you, because you're playing a Ranger/Cleric, and R/C's are notoriously tweaky in some aspects--one of which is that they <u>cannot</u> get the Cleric Stronghold, no matter how holy they are or what order you do quests in. A side effect of this is that when it's time to tell Minister Lloyd that you've completed the Temple Ruins quests, he does not ask you if you want to be the town's Ranger--he just forces it on you, like it or not. |

Spoiler about cleric stronghold:
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . The ring of holiness is a solid good item in my opinion. |
I struggled with the cleric stronghold for the following reason (possible spoilers)
You have to think like a 17th century bishop which i am not, modern values are less favourable when compared to a "burn the witch" philosophy that the game prefers or at least that person who moans, regardless of your actions. No bitterness here! |
I've not liked all the strongholds that I have done so far.
First time around, I was a Ranger, and my stronghold messed up (extreme annoyance) it was a glitch as the spirit of the forest never turned up. I think this was because I changed area when she spoke to me last. I had no save to go back to either :( . The thief stronghold was fun at first, but it didn't give me any missions specificaly for me, save for the first. So I don't really like them. About to do a Bard stronghold. |
So should I just stick with the ranger stronghold? I'd like to have the moon dog figurine if I can. Other than the ring of holiness (not sure what that does), any other perks with the cleric stronghold?

Spoilers <Might be>
* * * * * * * * * * Ring of Holiness Extra spell per level, 1-4--useable by Druid/Clerics only Moon Dog Figurine Summons Cerrebus, the moon dog, once per day for five minutes. He is capable of casting Haste and Mirror Image on himself. |
Oversight mod fixes the bug with the Ranger/Cleric being unable to get the Cleric stronghold.
Forgot about the Ring of Holiness (the Cleric stronghold was the second stronghold I did, many many moons ago). Actually, I can truthfully say that I really didn't like the Ranger stronghold. I just felt it was too short. Cleric stronghold is longer, and takes more thought overall (having to advise others, while keeping with the faith that you have chosen; I love the Talos version!). Some people don't like the Cleric one because it is all talking and little to no fighting, but I love the fact that the "best" options change based on which temple you choose (i.e. your alignment). |
