I just want out of the underdark,, for a while. I still have chapter 1,2,3 and 4 quests to do. I did the Mind Flayer prison. Cleared out a good portion of the Beholder lair(not all of it, I can't beat 7 of them at once yet). I did the Kua-Toa lair, but I could not beat the drow guarding the door. So I'm back in the main underdark(gnome village area)and have done the gnome king's quest(defeated the Balor demon) and the king gave me the "gem of light". I released Vithal with a "freedom" scroll and have obtained his book of rituals. How close am I to getting out of there? Direct walhthru SPOIL wanted.

Go toward the Drow city entrance, but split off to the left at the fork and go into the "Dark Cave" (should be labeled on your map as something like this). Here you'll meet a friendly NPC and she'll give you a way into the city..you have to complete the Drow city to get out of the Underdark (it's the easiest way anyhow)

No. This "gem of light" is supposed to lead me somewhere, right?

VERY carefully

If you're just interested in getting out, you should be able to do the following:

*** MAJOR SPOILERS ***

Follow Ares' advice. Once you've met the large, "friendly NPC" he refers to, go back to the large doors in the Kuo-Toa lair. You can buy your way past the drow guards (though there is a fight on the other side of the doors). From there, it's only steps to the exit from the underdark. The only problem is that, if you do this, you'll be able to re-enter the underdark, but you'll _never_ be able to get into Ust Natha (thus missing an excellent portion of the game).

You may want to stick around and finish the underdark instead of leaving, because it sounds like you've done a lot of the more difficult quests. If I were you, I'd follow Ares' advise, then go to Ust Natha (just my 2 cents).

Hmmm...didn't know that one. I guess you learn something new every day. Then again, why would you want to leave; you'll miss a TON of xp.

Ust Natha was without a doubt one of the most fun parts of the game. The characters, the atmosphere...

I just really like drow, and Ust Natha gives good opportunities for all sorts. Don't miss out on the fighting in the tavern! (I apologize if this spoils anything, but I think its vague enough).
