Even though I have played this game several times, I am uncertain what the messages in the caption screen means during a fight. For instance:
"John does 2 damage to golem.
John-golem was immune to my damage."
So, did John do 2 damage to the golem or not? It seems that he did, because eventually the golem dies. What does the "immune to my damage" message mean?
Thanks

As far as I know, this type of message applies to weapons which do "++" damage (i.e. 1D8+1, +1 cold damage), like the Flail of Ages or Frosteaver. The first part of the message refers to the "1D8+1" part, while the immunity was to the "+1 cold damage"). If I'm wrong, someone will be along in a minute to correct me.

Yes, I think you are right. It is either the elemental enhancement, or the (+x)part that does this. For example, even tho the golem is immune to weapons, maybe the (+x) part still comes into play. Oh the intricate joys of intricate enhancements

Yep it has to do with any magically inflicted damage....If it was just your weapon then the message would say "john-Weapon In-effictive".

This has nothing do do with the enchantment on the weapon, it simply means that when you scored the hit, 2 different types of damage were inflicted onto the Golem. The Golem seems to be highly resistant to the first type of damage (which is why it took only 2 points of damage), and completely immune to the second type. For instance, this could be the result of whacking an Adamantite Golem with the Stonefire Axe:
John- does 2 (slashing) damage to Adamantite Golem (which is 90% resistant to Slashing)
John- Adamantite Golem was immune to my (Fire) damage.

you are correct. in IWD2, i recall there being weapons that deal two different types of damage(e.g. blunt and piercing. go figure how...), and in this case a similiar text would appear.

Remember that this swings both ways.
Not only are some enemies immune to some elemental damages (e.g. hitting a Fire Elemental with FireTooth will only let the physical damage through),
Some enemies are immune to the primary (physical damage) and only let the elemental damage through. This makes elemental damage extremely powerful and is one of the main reasons why the FoA is such a kickass weapon.
Stoneskins e.g. only absorb the physical damage, so as long as your weapon does elemental dmg too mages are still unprotected ;)

Are there any enemies which, without casting Stoneskin, are completely immune to physical damage?

If memory serves there are coule of ones who are close to it. But they are in ToB. Certain Demon in very big and long Dungeon in ToB has 75% resistnace to Physical dmg and one Fire Giant(Ascension) who has 99% resistance to everything.

That was the part that I was referring to...
