Paraphrased from the spell's Description: "This spell causes the targeted individual's lost hitpoints to be regained, and wounds to close up and heal with astonishing speed, <u>even to the point of regrowing lost limbs.</u>"

So....cast it on The Thumb, and he grows his fingers back? What about Aerie? Does it work on knocked-out teeth, or gouged eyes, as well? Can it reverse the effects of aging? Boost a person's immune system? What does the D&D documentation say about this?

From the PHB 2nd Ed:

REGENERATE
(Necromancy)
Sphere: Necromantic
Range: Touch Components: V, S, M
Duration: Perm Casting Time: 3 Rounds
Area of Effect: 1 Creature Saving Throw: None

When a regenerate spell is case, body members (fingers, toes, hands, feet, arms, legs, tails, or even the heads of multi-headed creatures), bones, and organs grow back. The process of regeneration required but one round if the severed member(s) is (are) present and touching the creature, 2d4 turns otherwise. The creature must be living to recieve the benefit of this spell. If the severed member is not present, or if the injury is old than one day per caster level, the recipient must roll a successful system shock check to survive the spell.

The reverse, wither, causes the member or organ touched to shrivel and cease functioning in one round, dropping off into dust in 2d4 turns. A creature must be touched for the harmful effect to occur.

The material components of this spell are a prayer device and holy water (or unholy water for the reverse).

-----------------------------------

So there we have it. No mention of wings, and cartilage isn't bone ;)

Tough luck on Aerie eh!

ALSO!!! I managed to find a typo in the second ed description of this spell. As a bit of trivia, in the second sentence, dropping is spelled 'dorpping' in the printed version of the PHB. This is the first typo I've spotted and I'm chuffed ;)

Any good to you Six?

But wouldn't this mean that if one of your party members got 'chunked,' then you could bring them back using this spell? I've never used the spell, but I'm quite sure it doesn't do that ;)

If it can grow back arms & legs, it can grow back wings. But.....

"If the severed member is not present, or if the injury is old than one day per caster level, the recipient must roll a successful system shock check to survive the spell."
Well, both clauses come into play in the case of Aerie's wings....but does that mean that Regeneration should have no effect, or does it mean that she would simply need to survive a system shock? (If so, Girdle of Fortitude to the rescue!)

"The creature must be living to recieve the benefit of this spell."

<font color = lightgreen>The real spell Regenerate will regrown severed body parts, assuming that the body parts were there initially. However, the poor computer games are not sophisticated enough (at least, nothing in BG is sufficiently sophisticated) to account for severed limbs. I thought of creating a Sword of Sharpness (which will cleave limbs) but the game couldn't do it. Oh, well....</font>

Is it possible to code it as follows?

Permanent 20 - 30% reduction in total hp (regenerate gets rid of it) with maybe some penalties to either THACO (for arm) or movement rate (for leg).

I am not sophisticated enough with coding to know if this is possible; it is just a suggestion.

<font color=skyblue>It could probably be encoded, but it wouldn't visually show up in the game, at least, I don't think it would ;) .</font>

IIRC Qualye already tried to heal her unsuccessfully. Maybe this included a Regenerate spell with a failed System Shock after which he had to raise her. And maybe now Aerie is too scared to try that again and after all she has somehow made her peace with living without wings?

Dace De'Briago 11-27-2003 02:38 AM

I suppose she still has wings once a month, so it's not all that bad :D

lmao

This could make a great mod if you could find somoene good enough with 3d programs to edit the Aerie avatar to add wings to it. There could be a quest to create a special regeneration spell.
