i want to brush up on my german skills and what better way to do it than to get the german version of my all-time favourite pc game baldurs gate 2? but before i buy a copy of soa and tob i just want to make sure that the game actually is in german ( not just the title and manual ). if somebody here could confirm that the game is in german ill buy another copy in a heartbeat. thanks!

could you also please suggest a reputable german pcgame online store?

I'll skip all of your actual questions and mention this: there's a copy of the German ToB DIALOG.TLK file at http://weidu.org/old/ -- if you download that and copy it over the dialog.tlk in any version of BG2 (SoA or ToB), the printed text (not the spoken audio) will all become German. This will mess up mods, so uninstall them first.

I used this technique to practice my written French with BG2. It works fine.

cheaper than buying a new german bg2 game :D

1. WELCOME TO IWF
2. This is a VERY good idea because unlike many other games* the Baldur's Gate trilogy is exceptionally translated and spoken by native German speakers.
I got an English version myself, but my best friend got the German version and it's sweet!
3. Downloading the dialog.tlk from Weimer's site seems to be the best solution, if you are however stil searching for a German online store then on the top of my head I can only say www.amazon.de of course :D

*German in computer games: for written German I strongly recommend the old LucasArts/Lucasfilm adventures (Indiana Jones, Monkey Island, Loom, ZakMcKracken,...), for spoken German (at least in part) the Games of the Medal of Honor series have good spoken German. Many other games have REALLY bad computer-translator based spoken and written translations (e.g. No One Lives Forever, Civilisation II, Gabriel Knight series).

As faceman said and I have stated before elsewhere the German version is very well translated and captures by far the most of the humour, the interaction and the general spirit of the original (BTW same in BG1). There are a few minor mistakes or misunderstandings, but they are neglectable in number and gravity. Even all the spells' names, their description, the manual and and and.... are completely in German.
That's why I would recommend to buy the German version for language studies, though the other alternative with the download is of course cheaper (though a certain doubt about the run stability remains, hearing about incompatibility with this or that, but that may be unjustified).

Either way: Have fun und viel Spaß!!!

double post!
Besides that he's absolutely right.
Baldur's Gate (as well as the Lucasfilm games I mentioned) is especially great because it has lots of plot and dialogue. Playing Counterstrike in German for example would not help you very much ;)
