okay, maybe that should be in the BG1 forum along with my monk story
but since I am playing BGT and this is a BG2 ruleset question (Monk is a BG2 class) I am posting it here. IF YOU HAVE NOT PLAYED BG1 THERE ARE SOME SPOILERS AHEAD DO NOT READ! - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - My solo-monk is now lvl8 (THAC0=13) so he has 2 attacks with fists and does 1-10 dmg. I have recently acquired Frostbrand +3 (Scimitar 1d8+3) form Drizz't but it only gives me 1 attack (and I'm still not sure if that will ever change. Now I'm not sure if to use it or not. I have already figured out that it is better to use the scimitar IF + I hide in shadows and attack for one clean hit, I can always switch to fists when I left shadows + I'm fighting an enemy with an AC which is just at the edge (i.e. I can hit him with Frostbrand but with the fists I only get him on Critical) + I'm fighting an enemy with ridicolously low hitpoints, as the scimitar is more likely to get me a one-hit kill I've done the math and in all the other cases it seems as if the fists were better because they do more dmg/round on average BUT I have experienced differently and I think this is due to Critical Misses. I'm not quite sure, but does a Critical Miss prevent you from attacking the next round or something like this? That would explain why I sometimes can't get off the fistfighting as well as supposed to. |
Indeed, critical misses incur a time penalty. That could mean one of your attacks will be left out in the next round.
