When I play BG2, it runs pretty slow. The movement is kinda jerky, and during battle, it gets extremely slow. I literally spend so much time waiting for each area to load that I could just get up, get a snack, come back, and still have it not be loaded sometimes. If you need to know, I have BG2 on:

Windows ME
700 MHz
64 MB RAM
20 GB
48x max speed CD-rom

And I have done a recommended install.
In ToB, I did a full install and it runs a bit faster and loads much quicker, but it's still pretty slow. And I don't want to transfer to my Windows XP because I don't want to take up space and have it slow down the computer. Can anyone help me out to have it go faster? Has anyone else experienced this?

You might try new RAM and a faster Processor. Umm what kind of RAM do you have anyway? Also any kind of special vid card?

Try turning 3d acceleration off. Unlike most games, IE has no polygons so the 3d card cannot accelerate anything other than the special effects, and the special effect routines are sometimes much slower than the software versions. If it is off, try turning it on.

The two simple ways to make the game faster in your case:

1) Full install
2) More RAM

Personally, I'd do the full install first (free). If you still arent happy with the performance, get a techie mate to pop some more RAM into your system for you and be amazed at how fast your system has just become :D

Also, check your pc for spyware, it seriously decreases your performance...

if 3d graphics isnt on then dont put it on like andrewas said because that WILL make it slower

Five things:

1. Do a full install
2. In the Bgconfig, lower the 'general', 'graphics', and 'sound' to 'Minimum Machine'. If you lower it again, you may not hear anything while playing.
3. Turn off all of the 3d options
4. Use the 16 bit 2d color depth
5. Pick 640 X 480 game resolution option

Hope it helps.

Edit: Oh yeah, try to also turn off any program that runs behind your computer by pressing ctrl+alt+del and turning off all tasks except explorer and systray.

64 megs of RAM isn't very much. your processor is fast enough. in my experiences RAM is the main factor on your speed. i am running BG2 on a Pent II 450 Mhz. with 256 RAM and it runs great. only other thing that it may be is your graphics settings as they said above.

Alson 10-18-2003 02:56 PM

Try this. Go to "Start" -> "Run" and enter "dxdiag". Under the "Display" tab, disable DirectDraw acceleration. After a few years of playing BG2, I *still* can't understand what they were thinking when they wrote the graphics engine...

ADD] ...and don't forget to enable it when playing other games. ;)
