i took on the cowled wizard for edwin last night as part of the thef stronghold - i'm not sure whether to say i roleplayed it or just had appalling tactics ;) me (assassin), viconia & korgan just got back from nalia's keep and we've done the coronet so we're pretty well tooled up and can do a fair bit of elemental damage (i thought) so no problem

oops - protection from magical weapons - oops chaos or similar (taking out my assassin) and suddenly i'm not so confident - did we have any non-enchanted weapons with us? of course we didn't (on the post-fight debriefing flip chart viconia underlined 'take a normal weapon' 6 times!) - eventually the pfmw ran out and we weren't dead so the normal order of things re-asserted itself and here we are but we need to be slicker than that

as well as pmfw though, when i tried to flamestrike the guy i got the message 'invisible or sanctuaried creatures cannot be targetted . . . ' - he wasn't invisible though (or didn't look invisible) and he was a mage so presumably not sanctuaried . . . what would that have been?

The 'invisible or sanctuaried creatures cannot be targetted . . . ' message pops up when an enemy character casts Improved Invisibility or Shadow Door or somesuch, and I know that Cowled Wizard can cast one of those spells. If your assassin (or other party thief) has a good Detect Illusions percentage (50% and up), keep them on trapfinding mode to see if he/she can dispel the invisibility. Or cast Detect Invisibility, Dispel Magic, or True Sight to get rid of it.

Or your assassin can try a poison-coated backstab while Korgan keeps the cowlie busy.

thanks for that i guessed that but he didn't look invisible :S (should probably check the text afterwards) - i tried the sneak upstairs and backstab route but he dispelled my HiS without casting true sight and despite the cloak of non-detection - hence the party battering ;)
