I have never had jan in my party, and as such, i felt it necessary to pencil him into my schedule. I went to talk to him, and when he had nothing to say, i realized that I had offended the offending gnome, by refusing his turnip offer the first time he had rather sheepishly approached me. I attempted to do so with the utmost tact, but it was imperative that the party I had at that time stick together. In searching the forum, I found a post about the same situation, and they suggested using the CLUA console, with a SetGlobal("TalkedToJan","LOCALS",0) command, and i went ahead and attempted it, but he is still refusing to talk. I also read a reference to "control Q" -ing him, and tried that, and he was suddenly magically in my party, but i'd really honestly prefer to obtain his help through the standard procedure if I could. Any ideas?

Are you fully patched?

Even if you have all the patches Jan still refuses to talk to you if you rebuff him when he tries to sell you his flashers. This happened to me (even with all the patches installed) luckily I had a very recent reload. Maybe this is something to notify the baldurdash people about to include a fix in there latest fixpack...

Does it come up "Jan has nothing to say" in red? Or does he actually refuse to come into your party in his own words? If it comes up he has nothing to say try resting a few times before talking.

"NPC appears busy" is a common WinXP+ToB bug which is fixed in the latest official patches. If you turned down Jan for the first time the CLUAConsole is the way to go. You could also use the easier user interface of Shadowkeeper (and it will save to another savegame = prevent any damage you may cause with CLUA).

Sadly, it was towards the beginning of the game when we first had our interaction, and I did reject his offer. I'm running of Win98 because it seems to run better on my pc than WinXp. I was wondering if there was any other sort of CLUA command that could be given to reset his mood, because the one I entered didn't seem to do the trick. even after entering it, i still get the red message, "Jan has nothing to say to you". I guess my might just have to play through the game....again.....oh darn ;] |
<span style="color: lightblue">Try the console command again, with your cursor on the PC, then on Jan. If that fails, change "LOCALS" to "GLOBAL".
