I am sure that this is a well known attack to many of the advanced adventurers out there, but I just discovered it and am sure that it is the ultimate cheese attack!
When I know that there is a powerful group of enemies just out of sight, I have my sorcerer cast project image. I then take control of the "image" and cast wizard's eye and mislead. I walk the image sorcerer and the eye into range of the enemies and begin casting whatever powerful spells suit my fancy. The image sorcerer has a duration of one round per level of the sorcerer that created it, so it can get off a lot of spells before unsummoning. It has access to all of the spells of the original sorcerer, including scrolls equipped in the quick slots and any magical items that were equipped. The enemies just stand there and ignore the image. Even those that have true seeing are unable to see it-- A powerful (and cheesey) attack indeed! |
Wow.
And how nobody thought of that before I'll never know. I think I'll go and leap off a cliff now. [ 09-27-2003, 10:13 AM: Message edited by: Dace De'Briago ] |
It does not make sense... How would nobody see the image even with true seeing?? Well I will have to take your word for it.

That's part of the reason why it's ultimate cheddar. The code isn't able to respond to that trick. So it's even bug-infested-2-year-old-cheddar-cheese !!! :D </font> |

LoL! http://forum.kafegaul.com/forum/images/smilies/lol3.gif And I think the game is too complicated that the game developers couldn't managed to fix a bug even if its a little one.</font> |
The reason for the bug is the way the game handles true sight. When true sight is cast, it dispels any illusions in range, but project image is a spell that is targeted on the mage casting it. So the game will only dispel the PI if the original _caster_ is in range, not just the image. So casting it from a ways away and walking it forward keeps your mage out of range of the true sight spells.
Dace--be nice, not everyone has had the game and been reading the boards for years. |
Well, I always knew about this tactic but never really knew how to utilize it

Sorry to break it to you, bud... but... that's very, VERY old news (I mean gee... PRATI and Mislead Exploit were being used in 2001). Check out the Spell Reference in the Forum FAQ for all the established cheesy spell tactics you could possibly think of... and then some. ;)

Uh, I hate to say this, considering the fact that Yorick once nominated me for the most complete finishes on the board, but I never heard of that one before. So, I guess you really do learn something new everyday. :D
