does volo actually do anything i mean i found him and pickpocketed him and only got a jewel. but is he actually there for a reason??

i mena its good that other forgotten realms characters are in the game but they should have more impact

Yeah, I had hoped for more from the Volo interaction too. He's often getting into trouble. It would have been nice to have had a little mini quest on the order of the Marl dialgogue that incorporated him in some way. Like maybe you rescue him from an angry wizard or something, etc.

I agree, they really should have had him be more of a character. My suggestion: You meet him again in Baldur's Gate, patronizing one of the nicer inns, and he gives you hints with the Helm of Balduran quest--but ONLY if you loaned him some ale money while in Nashkel.

Yeah, but not a lot more and it isn't very interesting. Or at least it wasn't to me at whatever terrbile hour I played that part.
