I recently started a new game of BGT (my old is on hold until several bugs get fixed in the next patch) and I rolled a genuine 97 for my Elven Assassin (male, NE) giving him the following stats:
STR:18
DEX:19
CON:17
INT:18
WIS:11
CHA:14
Now I usually stop rolling somewhere between 85 and 90 but I got this one after about 5mins and was at first very happy but then disturbed. As I'll be taking this guy through BG1 too and I don't like using the tomes on other characters he'd end up with 19STR and 20DEX and 19INT which is a bit much for my taste (I could dual him to fighter OR mage and be better than the pure class).
So my question is: If I give in to my lower instincts and power him up as much as possible, how should I try to balance this out? By choosing rather embarrassing party members (brave, brave Sir Garrick) or by specializing in odd professions (only non-magical daggers) or is it no problem anyway and I should jut keep him as he is?

If you want a challenge: tone done the stats, those are just too super-human. If not, try to role-play as much as you can and still enjoy.

P.S. shouldn't the tomes have a restriction of 18 as max attainable stat? Going from 19 to 20 with a tome is ridiculous!

Pity you can't dual elves

I say go with him like he is. If you're already finding the game easy, try increasing the difficutly or installing mods.

Faceman,

why waste a great roll like that ? :D

You can always stash the tomes somewhere safe until you decide whether to use them of not....

I, personally, would make a party of the weaker NPCs. At least you could say that you've used them.

Shar-Teel (she's actually quite good, but not as a Tank)
Khalid
Jaheira until you can get Faldorn
Viconia until you can get Quayle
Garrick
Assassin?

Should be fun.

speaking of tomes, i'd have put charisma to 18 and dropped wisdom ;)

just take a small party...like 1 or 2 extra people....makes the game harder...

but those are some VERy good stats...

He is a despiable evil assassin. His charisma is too high as it is. I went for 18 char with my Blade in my last game (put down strenght to 13 Con to 11) because he was a very nice likeable guy. But my assassin is just too evil (and not lawful obviously) to have high char.

why put 18 on charisma if u can just get the ring of human influence in the circus tent. I mean. Or are u gonna do bg1 again with this guy? Just cos in the bg1 forum u sed u wer just gona start him from bg2

Faceman 09-17-2003 03:02 PM

I already did BG1 with my Blade and I put the 18 char for rpg-reasons and because I really want Aerie to like him even after he has taken his gear off :D
Also I don't like keeping items in inventory just to use them for casual encounters like shopping ;)
After BG1 and the fabolous tomes he now has 19 char and thus can easily get to 25 with "Friends". Now that should get me some discount :D
