Spoilers*****************
I am currently on chapter 5 in the underdark caverns. I am trying to kill the demon (Balog/Balrog/Balorg?) but it takes +3 weapons to hit. Unfortunately i only have 2 +3 weapons (spear and cleric's staff). However, whenever i attack him he casts a spell on most of my party so i cannot control them and with only two characters who can do any damage i need to know if that is enough? Also, are there any other +3 weapons in the caverns? Is killing the demon essential to progression? note- my party is good aligned thanks |
read this thread,
http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/cg...c;f=2;t=022347 and I think the fight is essential especially for a good party. |
the fight can be beaten with the right tactics (see the post teardropmina linked) however it is not completely necessary. You will get a plot essential item as reward but you CAN get that item otherwise.
The question is - how good-aligned is your party? If you're like a group of paladins (e.g. Mazzy, Valygar, Keldorn, Anomen) the fight is a must-choice (RP-wise). If you're some neutral&good guys (e.g. Imoen, Nalia, Jan, ...) you could argue that you are not up to the fight and have to use other means although they seem unlawful/incorrect. Who would be (theoretically - this has no real game effect) dissatisfied with chickening out - Keldorn, Anomen, Minsc, Jaheira, Mazzy, Valygar Who'd be willing to try another way - Nalia, Imoen, Aerie, Jan, HaerDaelis (and the evil guys of course) |
only 2 +3 weapons. How many quests did u do b4 goin to the asylum?
|
Something that the other link didn't mention--there are a few spells that will create +3 or greater weapons. Enchanted Weapon (level 4), Phantom Blade (level 5), and Melf's Minute Meteors (level 3) are the only ones I can think of at the moment; no doubt other people can name others.

I only had two +3 weapons too (well I had some more in my inventory that I forgot I had until I beat him) and what I did was summon monsters to distract him from my party members. If he starts beating on a party member (leave everyone without +3 weapons out of the way) move them around until he picks on a summoned creature instead. Then move back and hack away (repeat as needed). And summon more creatures as the others die (preferably with the characters that don't have the +3 weapons). Hope that helped.
