I'm talking about the Knights of Dark Renown component of the Battles mod, check the threads for the location of the mod.

I've managed to beat them with a fairly high level party only. Now the readme for the battles said that: "Loosely based on the David Gemmell novel, this component was probably the most
enjoyable to create.

This encounter triggers when you reach level 15, but if you are not in the city
at that time it will only trigger when you return.

I won't spoil any of the surprise, but I will say this: it can be difficult, but
it can also be very easy."

I'm wondering what the very easy way is, because I haven't been able to find it yet.

Maybe if you could give me a slight hint so I can find it out myself would be even better though!

There is one very easy way...for me it was that I was well over level 15 when I encountered them. I had an earlier version of the mod that didn't have them installed and when I updated to the most recent version they spawned for me when I was around level 20. Okay, that doesn't really count. On my next run they'll hit me fair and square though.

My memory isn't great but I believe when I did fight them a certain cheesy weapon I obtained from the mod helped a great deal. Have you gotten the Two-handed sword called Tainted Sin yet? I won't spoil anything for you unless you ask me about it. If I'm in serious trouble I break this sword out.

On a side note - have you gotten very deep into the mod? Do you like it? What are your thoughts? etc. I've just recently gone all the way the up to the final battle in TOB so I think I've covered all the mod's improvements(on core). I've been wanting to discuss it on this forum but it doesn't seem like too many people have it installed.

It's a very nice and spicy mod, very healthy when you want some extra experience from your BG2 adventure. There are also nice rewards to be gained from your extra efforts. There isn't a fight that is overly difficult to be won, except for the KoDR maybe, I you're really at level 15 (you could escape to spellhold before level 15 and then when you return to Athkatla around level 19-20, ZANG!!

All you need to do is some more careful planning about your next step. For instance: I always do the Unseeying Eye quest fairly early on, with the shield of balduran. To get there you need to go throug the Temple Sewers party. They have been beefed up quite a bit and my level 8-10 party got beaten by them no problem. So I had to wait to get them till I was 4-5 levels higher. Those two fighters simply tore through my characters after Zorl succesfully dispelled all my buffs, cuz he was of higher level.

The mad cleric is, indeed, mad! He scared the hell out of me when I first met him and proceeded to decimate my fully unaware low-level party ;)

It can't be compared to Tactics, since that was almost a necessity, but it does do some of the fights in BG2 justice. People should install this one next to Tactics for the Full Monty!

P.S. I haven't really gotten into the new kits, but IIRC they blow... What say you?

P.P.S Indeed, the sword tainted sin is the key to an easy victory, especially if you can get more of it ;)

I've taken the Demon Knight kit all the way to TOB final fight, that's where I'm at now. I give that one a big thumbs up. The other ones I don't care much for though.

Not if you go around the other way, which is what I'm going to have to do from now on. ;)

Indeed, but some of them are way too overpowered IMO. The sword we mentioned and a bow you get from Wraith Sarevok in Hell are a couple. But others are good like the robe from the Temple Sewers party.

I guess it all depends on what level your party is at and what your difficulty setting is on. The Master Brain on insane is just plain nuts for any party and Mencar Pebblecrusher early on isn't going to happen anymore.

I like the mod a bunch though, and will continue to play with this one, tactics and ascension to keep things challenging.
