How do you get a permit to use magic in the city?
The acorns from John Irenicus biatches.....Where's the fairy queen?

Surely the leaders of the city will be able to help you with this problem.

Try asking around at a major inn.

</font>
Thanx and thanx!

Who are the leaders of the city? (unless this spoils the plot!)

thanx for the vagueness! I am only on to chapter 2 and don't want the game spoiling too much!

Porrly 08-27-2003 08:11 AM

Also, how do you get the romances going on in the story?

Pirengle 08-27-2003 08:32 AM

First off, welcome to Ironworks!

Second off, if you're trying to play the game with as few spoilers as possible, you might want to read this site first instead of poking around on the forum. Not only does it explain more about the D&D and roleplaying world than the manual (you HAVE read the manual, right? :D ), but it's 98% spoiler-free. We're a well-intentioned bunch, but sometimes we answer more than what you're asking.

The dryads aren't hard to miss. I agree with pcgiant--the best place to find information is an inn.

What better place to learn more about the governing body of Athkatla than the city's own Government District? ;)

Romances happen with certain NPCs, and are NPC-initiated, meaning that a party member will start romance dialogues by talking to you. You'll know a LoveTalk (the name for the romance dialogues) by the sound of it--each LT has character-specific theme music playing in the background. How do you know if an NPC is romancable or not? If you haven't seen or heard a LoveTalk within 7-8 game days of taking the person into your party, then they're not romancable. (If you have two or more romancable NPCs in your party, you're eventually going to have to choose between them, because they won't let up until you make your choice. )

The romances start themselves if you have a "romancable" character in your party and meet the requirements (e.g. you need to be male to romance a female unless you have mods installed to take care of that). There's nothing you need to do to trigger them, although once a romance is started, your dialogue choices *will* matter with regard to the conclusion of the romance.

If you don't want to be spoiled too much, then I'd suggest you just go play the game The leaders or governors of the city will be found in a district with a give-away name... You don't need to worry about the acorns yet - this quest cannot be solved in the city itself.

Enjoy the game!

Edit: Whoops, Pirengle, same time post :D

Yeah, I have the manual! I bought the game ages ago cos it looked really interesting, but haven't managed to get round to playing it!

Don't I have to give their acorns to the fairy queen? How do you get her location added to your map, or am I asking the question that you just answered?

I think I know which music you mean. Does this mean that I have to give the right answers? What are the advantages/disadvantages to being in a romance?

the romances add richness and depth to your character and enhance your gaming experience ;)

well, I really like the romance as part of the game, sometimes it's just feeling, extra aura to your battle/quests/leveling up RPG; sometimes the whole romance thing would make sense when you reach the end of ToB (suppose you want to play it that is; better yet, in the case of one particular romance, it makes sense from BG1, to SoA, and then finally to ToB). If you don't like the extra romance, you can always pick the obvious wrong answers when the NPCs initiate Lovetalk. If you're fond of romancing (like myeslf^_^), you need to be careful what answers you give while love talking because some wrong answers may just end the romance but some wrong answers not only end the romance but also cause the romancing NPC to leave your party (of course you have more than enough NPCs to replace her/him).
