hello
I have only recently purchased the game and am having difficulties with
in-game controls. I need to thoroughly read the manual to play the game, however the manual is on CD and is over two hundred pages long. Is there a shorter version available? Or do I have to use up most (if not all) of my ink cartridge?

I also tried playing without the manual and have followed the tutorial into the game. However, I cannot pass a point early in the game.

The point i have reached is just after a fifth character has joined my party. We enter a room with multiple flying creatures, I act as healer for the party but my party are poor attacking enemies without me and die. Any advice?

I am not sure about the manual.

About the creatures. They are called Mephits.
The person who has joined you has a bow. Shoot the Mephits with him. If you are in the room where Mephits are in cages shoot those first!

could u tell us ur party, your levels and whereabouts you are?

regarding your question, you should get a manual with the game, just have a browse through it and read the bits you want, you dont need to read it all.

the memphits in the cages spawn more memphits so kill them and the no more will be summoned

If you're talking about the room with the Memphits in the cages, do as Xen said. Kill the ones in cage from a distance with Yoshimo and his bow.

If you're talking about the room where the wind-statue was the key, I suggest you use Minsc. By this time, you should've gotten atleast one Oil of Speed, which is really great. Make Minsc drink one of these first, then put him in Berserker rage, and he'll get rid of the Memphits in no time. ;)

EDIT] As for the manual, there's really no need to read it. Go through the tutorial first, and you'll learn everything you need to know. ;) </font>
