I've recently become more involved with the thieving class, and I was wondering about something and this is really bugging me. I had a thief in a previous game that had a Hide in Shadows score off 100, and combined with the Boots of Stealth, she could hide in broad daylight. So what I'm wondering is can thieves not use the Hide in Shadows skill while in a fight? Because mine never seemed to even in the black of the Underdark

No you cannot HiS during the fight. It would be possible to fade in the shadows like Ninja you know.

The "logic" behind not being able to hide while within an enemy's sight range is that it's try to play hide & seek against someone who's always peeking: It's no good trying to hide if they can see where you go.

Of course, the logic falls completely apart when your Thief has been Blinded: You can go Stealth when you're only 3 feet away, because according to the game engine, if YOU can't see THEM, then THEY can't see YOU. Strange but True.

Well then, next time your thief is in danger of dying, just have your mage blind them and then "RUUUUUUUN." Magic can always come in handy
