First off, I hope this post doesn't come up like, 2 or 3 more times, cuz I clicked 'add new topic' and the 'server could not be found' a few times. So sorry in advance if it comes up again.
Anyway, I have never really looked at any of the patches, but I just took a look at the WeiDu Mods, and they look really cool, especially Ascension and 'After the End.' If I install some of those patches/mods, will it affect both my SoA game and my ToB game? It would be nice to have it affect both of them. Plus, could you guys give some recommendations on which ones to install? I'm pretty much looking for the ones that add more to the game, but not make the game easier. Instead, just have it be at the same difficulty or even harder. Also, I saw an Icewind Dale 2 Mod there...so not all of those patches are for Baldur's Gate. Is the Icewind Dale 2 Mod the only one there that's not for BG2/ToB? Thanks for any help in advance |
Ive seen weiDU mods for BG2 and IWD2, as well as one for BG1. I suspect weiDU mods for IWD1 exist as well.
AS for which to get - I refuse to play without tactics and ascension installed, the game is harder and therefore more interesting with them. Ease of Use is primaril convinience but does make the game easier - more generous stacking limits and such. I dont use it. Not even with an archer. Item upgrade I dont touch, Cfury is powerful enough without it. But it does somewhat rebalance the game if installed alongside tactics. Whether it goes to far is a matter of opinion. The Imoen Romance looks interesting, as do the new NPCs - I have to take tashia and Kelsey at some point, and Valen is in my next evil party. Assuming my computer dosent take its ususal attitude to me playing evil, and crash the hard drive in chapter 2. |
I manually extracted the files that I d/l to the SoA directory myself since the self extracting stuff wasn't working. How do I know if all this worked? Do I just have to wait it out?

i would be very careful if im you. been there, done that, suffers. some MODs are not compatible with others and they will just crash in the middle of the game. i downloaded a few and most of them works. here are some of them which works properly.
(be sure to download/tob the tobfixpack first) xpcap (this will remove the barrier that keep you from gaining more xp and leveling up after you reached the highest required in the game) bg2 attacks bg2 lvl 50 ashes of embers thief stronghold expansion mod forgotten wars item project (it works but there are some problems like when you have the ability (assasin) to use any item, two handed sword like the moonblade wont work.. it will crash) in this order you wont have any problem at all. after this ive downloaded dungeons be gone (strictly for gamers who played the game at least 50 times) its a very helpful mod i think. then theres azenMOD (it didnt work with my game... but some says it works with them. i bet its another MOD combo) edge of endeavour (a verrry creative work... but it crashes when you start the game... specially with other MODs installed)http://forgottenwars.net then of course the NPC mods, very helpful indeed. (downloadable at http;//www.michel.rpgtalk.com) ... but be very careful i say. don't blame me in the end Legolas Greenleaf |
No wonder. I installed in this order:
Ascension Redemption Baldurash Remix Hell Trials Tactics Mod And the game has just 'randomly decided to close by itself' twice already. Luckily, both happened just a few minutes after the save. Should I just remove all of them except Ascension/redemption (I really want those 2) to be safe. Plus the Baldurash Remix fixes bugs (like when some1 appears to be busy when u wanna talk to them), so I wanted that. Should hell trials and tactics mod go out the door? I wouldn't find it particularly if the game crashed after not saving for a loooong time. |
Lord,
have you installed the official patch ? The Baldurdash remix mod has been 'discontinued' - The original Baldurdash website was offline for sometime many moons ago and the remix filled in the gap until the site was up and running again. With the exception of Ascension/Redemption, WeiDU mods can usually be installed in any order. Regardless you need to install the Official patch first followed by Baldurdash |
Oh whoops, just remembered. I clicked on the remix link, said that it was discontinued, but to install the patch...which I did. I think I'll remove all but ascension/redemption/tactics/patch. Which is pretty much just...(tough 1 to figure out as it's the only 1 left), Hell Trials mod. I'll see if this fixes my prob, as I see that some1 else (I belive Legolas the Magnificent) put a post (I'm doomed) about a prob with the mods.

As for which MODs to install, the rules are simple:
1) Those MODs that do not state that they're in WeiDU format are old, and probably buggy. They are also highly incompatible: You can only have 1 non-WeiDU MOD installed at any time, and they must be installed before any other MODs. (Official patch and BaldurDash always take precedence.) If you encounter a non-WeiDU MOD, search around and you may find that it's been updated to WeiDU format: Ascension and The Darkest Day have been resurrected in this manner. 2) Go for what you want. If you think that the selection of Druid weapons in the game is pretty damn pitiful, you might want Item Upgrades. If you think the de'Arnise Keep is too easy and TorGal makes a pitiful guardian for the FoA, I'd suggest Tactics. If you like being a Thief or Bard, I'd suggest Improved Thief Stronghold and Rogue Rebalancing. If you like to play Solo games or with a small party, you might want the EXP cap remover in Ease-of-Use. Note that, in the great majority of these MODs, you can pick and choose which components to install. If you want to shut up that "You must gather your party before venturing forth," but don't want to be able to wear Plate+1 and a Ring of Protection+1 at the same time, you can control that. It's the same thing with the Item Upgrades: andrewas objects to the CF+5, but nobody's going to force him to have Cromwell upgrade the sword if he doesn't want to. |
Six, there's a TDD WeiDU now ??
Andrewas, Item Upgrade doesn't make CFury more powerful, realy... it just means it can be used against a couple more things. CF + 5 is unbalanced, yes, but not realy more so than CF + 3. [ 07-21-2003, 02:10 AM: Message edited by: LennonCook ] |
