Hi, I'm back.

I just downloaded from Sorcerer's, a kit called Archer of Sylvanus.
I did everything that the instruction told me to, but I finished it and not only it is listed simply as Avenger, it also has NOT the description I WANTED THERE!
AND it doesn't have any proficiencies in BOWS which it WAS supposed to have, and I tried that again, repeated the process, but with the same result! WTF!?

Can anyone give me some assistance?

Common problems - files intended for the override folder end up in either the main folder or the override/override folder.

If its name and description are not as they should be, you have applied the instruction for editing dialog.tlk file erroneously (which is an easy thing to do).

</font>
  • Download NearInfinity (it requires JAVA something).</font>
  • Open it, expand 2DA tab, and search for KitList.2da (which should look like this:
    <pre><font size=3>2DA V1.0
    *
ROWNAME LOWER MIXED HELP ABILITIES PROFICIENCY UNUSABLE CLASS

    0 RESERVE * * * * * * *

    1 BERSERKER 25179 25151 25201 CLABFI02 29 0x00000001 2
    2 WIZARD_SLAYER 25180 25152 25203 CLABFI03 30 0x00000002 2
    ...
    ...
    31 BARBARIAN 45855 45859 45869 CLABFI05 51 0x40000000 2
    32 Archer_Sylvan XXXXX YYYYY ZZZZZ CLABAR01 53 0x00008000 11</font></pre></font>
  • XXXXX, YYYYY and ZZZZZ are the numeral references of the texts that the game refers to. They are stored in the dialog.tlk file. You have to tell the game which texts it should load. XXXXX and YYYYY is your kit name, in this case it is Sylvan Archer. ZZZZZ is the description. In your case, these are probably *****.</font>
  • Don't close NearInfinity, but click Edit->Dialog.tlk and click "Add". In the field on the right, write "Sylvan Archer". In the upper left corner, you'll see a number (ordinal number of the text reference). Copy it (Ctrl+C) and paste (Ctrl+V) it to KitList.2DA instead of both XXXXX and YYYYY.</font>
  • Now click "Add" again, and paste the kit description in the same field as before. Copy the number to KitList.2DA instead of ZZZZZ. Now click "save" in the String Editor window, and click "save" in the main window, where KitList is displayed. Now you can close the NI and the text should appear in the game as it should.</font>
  • The KitList should look like this:
    <pre><font size=3>2DA V1.0
    *
ROWNAME LOWER MIXED HELP ABILITIES PROFICIENCY UNUSABLE CLASS

    0 RESERVE * * * * * * *

    1 BERSERKER 25179 25151 25201 CLABFI02 29 0x00000001 2
    2 WIZARD_SLAYER 25180 25152 25203 CLABFI03 30 0x00000002 2
    ...
    ...
    31 BARBARIAN 45855 45859 45869 CLABFI05 51 0x40000000 2
    32 Archer_Sylvan 74147 74147 74148 CLABAR01 53 0x00008000 11</font></pre></font>
Good luck!

Thanks, dudes. That IS what I did. Okay, perhaps it was my first time and I may have screwed it up without really knowing. BUT I insist, I did as Vedran showed me. One more thing, though, I have IEEP Pro. When I exported the Sylvan.iap file it somehow said after importing, that it had an error that prevented it from showing. Perhaps what I unzipped was corrupted?

P.S. It's Archer of Sylvanus, but I could try Sylvan Archer...if I get over the dread of uninstalling & Installing again...

It depends what kind of error it was.

The name is just a name that appears in the record screen. I doubt it could be a cause of any problem.

A change of the name of a kit is an easy task though: just load any dialog.tlk editor (either the NI or the one in IEEP), find the string you want to alter, alter it, and save.
