Just wondering, I'm planning on soloing the game with a sorcerer who simply blasts everything in his way. That means no summons. Anyone know if there are any enemies in the game that spells like Dragon's Breath can't handle? (If it's MR thats the problem), that it absolutely MUST take meleeing to kill?
Anyway... another interesting point: When PC casts spells, it seems soo bland. I mean, when Irenicus casts them, these swirly things (usually attributed to flesh to stone and what not) goes around him. How can WE do it too? I really wish a Mod would allow this. (Make different schools of spells have different swirlies). It would be soooo cool. |
That WOULD be cool. I think if you're just pure mage or pure sorceror, when you reach level, 18 or something, you're spells should get a lot flashier. Especially MM and MMM, the should look....FLASHIER! Theres a pretty big damage difference between a level 7 MM and a level 18 MM, so LvL18 MM should be brighter or soomething. Thats a good idea Omicron!
Decurion P.S. As for the sorceror oriented part of your question I really don't know. Sorry! ;) :D [ 06-16-2003, 07:57 PM: Message edited by: Decurion ] |
Well, I once tried a solo sorcerer campaign, but I decided first to download Baldur's Gate Trilogy and start off from Candlekeep as an assasin--never tried a thief before. Anyhow, soloing a sorc can be difficult in the beginning. I kept finding myself out of spells, forcing me to have to quarterstaff my way through fights. Made for a heck of a time before I got my magic license, too.
That doesn't mean it *can't* be done, only that it might be difficult early on to play the game by solely using spells... |
Download Baldurs Gate Trilogy? What do u mean?

Baldur's Gate Trilogy is a mod that implements BG1 in SoA/ToB thus allowing you to play the whole story (starting right at Candlekeep) with the BG2 interface.
To answer your first question: Mind Flayers could be difficult. They have MR like hell and mostly appear in number more than one attacking with their psionic attacks. I don't think it would be easy to lower resistance on three flayers while making all your saves (or hopefully being immune to psionics by other means) and then blast them away with some fireballs. And I wouldn't try anything on our favourite demilich without summons and a melee weapon :D |
Oh, wouldn't worry about that. Dragons Breath takes care of Demi liches. (Ignores MR).

Pick MMM for a level 3 spell. Essential, IMO, for those enemies resistant to your magic at the beginning.
|
No-summon sorc is nearly impossible, IMO, but I have never given it a try. But from all my soloing experience, summons play a great, sometimes vital part in all your combat. And remember, you will have to level up a lot before you get enough Dragon Breaths. And levelling is possible through killing lots of monsters, some of which have high MR... Or just have lotsa hp... or just move fast... or just regenerate... or just Paralytic-Gaze you... or just throw a Confusion before doing anything else. And summons act as decoys, making all their attacks go in vain.
But its your choice. Try it, do it, and I'll be the first to congratulate you with victory Just an another proof of tremendous firepower sorcerers wield this solo may be, if it succeeds. En Taro Adun! [ 06-17-2003, 03:45 AM: Message edited by: TaSSaDaR ] |
"Anyone know if there are any enemies in the game that spells like Dragon's Breath can't handle?"
Yes there are so many. Lets imagine dragon breath against certain dragons, the imprisoned one, fire elemntals, certain bhaal children, etc. ? And what about the ones what have fire resistance - how many dragon breaths you'll need. You already know about the spell protection what will save the enemy from your fire ? I think dragon breath is more useable as spell what will spread the enemy group far from you. Before your 1st lvl 7 spell it is difficult - I agree, but then the sorcerer becomes nightmare. Is Black blade of disaster a summon ? Examples: Once you've got mistead (replace with II) , project image (what project image is summon - well then good luck) and spell immunity + cloak of non-detection what we're talking about? Mind-what - flayers? Against undead there is prot from undead. Against demons there are so many things. Sorcerer with certain sling may get rid of mr. Gaxx (demi mode) - its a whole different story if you wanna beat him before entering spellhold. I don't know a spell what can harm Demogorgon. Just say what of the spells you're considering to be a summon. [ 06-17-2003, 07:27 AM: Message edited by: Merlin from Amber ] |
